Given the complexity of the paint scheme, it is going to be a lot easier to paint my new vehicles without any of the accessories on (purity seals, tow cables, smoke launchers, etc.). Once painted up, I plan on glueing the accessories in place. I'd seal the whole thing once everything is in place.

Do you think it will impact the bond much to super-glue these accessories onto paint, rather than plastic to plastic?

Paint to paint doesn't glue as well as plastic to plastic. However, if you're using plastic glue, that will actually eat through the paint and bond straight to the plastic.

Be careful about frosting from using too much superglue. One way to ruin some paint work and cause you to need to touch up. - having a small fan, or leaving the piece in a slight breeze from a window can solve that problem entirely (the frosting is a build up of the fumes coming off the glue)

Frosting is due to exposure to water FYI.

OP: This is the way I do it. Haven't had a problem. Just have to assemble out of order, so lots of dry fitting.

But yes, theoretically a weaker bond. I'm rough with my minis though.

I'd scratch off or score the paint under the piece your attaching. Just a small piece though.

Not really, it'll soften the paint, but still won't bond well to the underlying plastic. Even with plastic glue if you just slightly scratch the surface of the paint to expose the plastic, it'll be a hell of a lot stronger bond.

You could just varnish both the main part and the accessories then superglue it on. The varnish will protect the paint.
