Is there anyway to play Eldau or Taudar competitively without bring the Wave Serpent Spam, Triptide, O'vesa Star?

I really like the models of Eldar and Tau. Like Riptides, and could see myself bringing ONE! I could also see myself bringing a Single Wave Serpent. I love Bikes and Jetbikes and would want to bring a couple small units of them.

See my problem? I like all of the models used in the Spam Lists! I want to play comp and avoid the net lists, anyone have any ideas that will help me out?

How competitively?

You could do something like this:

5x DA w/ Serpent (TL SL, SC, HF) - 210

3x3 Jetbikes - 151

Wraithknight - 240

Batman - 140-200

2x10 Kroot w/ Hound - 130

Riptide - 205/210

That's about 1100 points and gives you a solid base to build around. You could get some War Walkers, Warp Spyders, Swooping Hawks, or whatever.

I'd like to be able to consistently place in my local area and next year when I make the jump to the Cons and Big Tourneys, at least finish above .500!

If i can roll people with a non-netlist that'd be great. I don't want to lose any friends over my list though.

Yeah, it's perfectly possible. All you have to do is take a variety of units. That way if you take 1 or 2 'over powered' things that preform very well, that's fine because the regular stuff will be...well regular. For example take a Wave Serpent, but instead of hiding troops in it put Fire Dragon's in it. Take a Riptide, but take the HBC instead of Ion Accelerator. Try take a Phoenix Lord, or try Swooping Hawks or Shining Spears. Heck, try Vespid! You are playing Eldar or Tau, nothing you do will be terrible, so just try have fun with it.
