I played this list tonight at my shop and dominated a Tau/SM list. My big fear is MCs, which my opponent didn't field, so take it with a grain of salt. My list was thrown together to play with a few toys I wanted to try. I think with tweaking it could be fearsome.

Primary Detachment
HQ
CCS, heavy flamer, lascannon - 90
Primaris Psyker, mastery 2 - 75

TROOP
Veterans, x3 plasma guns, autocannon - 115
Veterans, x3 plasma guns, autocannon - 115
Veterans, x3 meltaguns, Taurox - 140
Veterans, x3 meltaguns, Taurox - 140

FAST ATTACK
Vendetta - 170

HEAVY SUPPORT
x2 Hydras - 140
x2 Leman Russ Executioners - 310
x2 Wyverns - 130

Allied Detachment
HQ
Tempestus Command, x4 plasma guns - 145

TROOP
Scions, +5 Scions, x2 plasma guns - 160
Scions, +5 Scions, x2 plasma guns - 160

Notes: Typing it out, I realized I'm 40 points over. Not sure if it made a big difference though. My Tempestus Command hadn't even landed when my opponent conceded.

Stuff that works! Squadroned Wyverns are delightful, dropping 8 twin-linked shredding blasts that ignore cover. Executioners with prescience are amazing. At only 10 points more, Vets seem way more worth it than Platoons for a shooting list. I think Hydras have enough flying/skimming targets amongst the codexes to be worth it. 10-model scoring Scions landing on objectives and cleaning off troops are fantastic.

Stuff that's not so great! I was never in range of more than one squad for orders (two counting the command squad itself). The Vendetta has always failed to score kills for me reliably, and now it costs more. Tauroxes are fairly disappointing with their single gun.

I want to try and get more mileage out of orders. I think there's potential with their improvements. Still, my overall strategy of getting as many cheap, effective units fielded as possible proved solid. My opponent couldn't prioritize targets effectively and got overwhelmed. Early kills to the Wyverns and Executioners also played a key role.

Anyway, tweaks inbound for the future. I'm happy with this basic skeleton though.

Solid win. Your list packs lots of S7/A2 for MC.

I can't wait to get my hands on an executioner to see how it performs, w/ prescience it sounds great!

Thanks! I'm hoping all the plasma and autocannons are sufficient. We have a Tyranid player who loves MCs, as well as an Eldar player with two or three Wraithknights. I'll challenge him soon.

The Executioner was amazing. One took an infantry squad alone, and apart from Tau's disruption pods could have cleaned out transports easily. Sponsons would be a welcome upgrade.

I think I'd add a Psyker in place of that Vendetta, and trade the Tauroxes for Chimeras. A fortification wouldn't be crazy, either, if it's cheap.

W/ an extra psyker you could prescience both the plasma vets while issuing them the monster hunter order. reroll to hit, reroll to wound.

I found Vets w/ 3x plasma, lascannon and camo gear in cover was a tough nut to crack. Can even go to ground for a 2+ in ruins, then the next turn issue gbitf.

Did you deep strike the scions? What did you end up doing with them? Did you use the Scion orders? Which ones? I want to run them too thats the reason for all the questions haha.

Yeah, I should push twin-linked onto my plasmavets, with orders or psychic powers. I'm looking at giving them an autocannon and camo; very similar. I'll remember GBITF!

Deep struck onto objectives and wiped out the enemy's scoring units (Pathfinders, in this case). I planned to use orders, but my command squad mishap'd to ongoing reserves, and my opponent conceded before they re-entered.

Landing them on or near objectives, especially in area terrain, is pretty golden. Even without orders they're formidable. I highly suggest making them 10-man units. They're a little too fragile at 5-man.

damn, now that is sexy.

big UP plus1jeremy. just now reviving my love for this game and this gives me some good ideas for building a new army with the new codices. wasn't sure if the scions were going to be worth the extra points but they seemed to work well for you. what are your thoughts on fielding independent characters (Yarrick, Creed, Pask...) for HQ rather than a CCS? the CCS approach seems cheaper.

For raw order-issuing, I'd stick to a regular CCS. For Creed's points you could get a whole second squad with 20 points to spare. Pask has strong potential in the right tank. If you're going tank commander, I think he's worth his points. If you want an assault blob, Yarrick could be worth it since he can attach. He's pricey, but I'd rather have my commander attached, and Lord Commissars can't issue orders.

that makes sense. definitely looking forward to trying both approaches: tank commander with Pask & assault blob with Yarrick. what about regimental adivsors in the CCS? seems like they got a boost with this new codex.

They're cheaper, which is fun. If you reserve a lot, I really like the Master of the Fleet. Not too hot on the others, personally. MoO is too inaccurate, and Astropath can only take Telepathy, which is kinda meh in my opinion. If there's powers you like or can make work though, 25 points is nothing for a psyker.
