Hi folks, im playing with ideas for a different army for tournament play over my SM imp fist themed raptors army.

My current thoughts are:

HQ

Jetseer with Mantle of the Laughing god - 155

Karandrass - 230

Troops

Windrider Jetbikes * 6 with 2 * S, Cannons x 2 244

Elites

Striking scorpions - 6 man squad
Exarch with scorpion claw, monster hunter 147

Fire Dragons - 6 man

Exarch with fast shot and iron resolve
in a wave serpent with holo field, vector engine and twin scatter lasers 307

Fast Attack

Warp spiders - 6man squad
Exarch with twin linked shot 110

Heavy Support

Fire Prism with Holo field and crystal targeting matrix 165

War walker * 2 with scatter lasers 140

Total 1498

Anyones thoughts. Cheers

Got to have more troops. 2 units at 1500 is not enough. What are you trying to go for? Doesn't really seem like there is a cohesive theme.

No real theme in mind really, a little bit of the court of the young king biel tan feel from many moons ago, but obviously cant do that now.

Other option is to split the bikes into 4 units of 3, gives a lot more manouverability, hard to expand and keep the hard hitters though, could drop the war walkers and add a squad of guardians with a weapons platform and a serpent instead, however that would mean losing bike squads too, so it would be 2 squads of 3 bikes with cannon and the 10 guardians and the serpent.

This would mean losing a lot of shots from the war walkers with guide etc,

Am I missing the reason why people take 6 man fragon squads? Everybody who is taking fire dragon squads seems to always have them in 6 man.
I would recommend taking them in a 5 man squad, as an more is over kill.

Made a few changes after discussing with a friend and what mentioned on here (my mate echoed you ninja.)

HQ

Jetseer with Mantle of the Laughing god - 155

Karandrass - 230

Troops

Windrider Jetbikes * 3 with S, Cannons x 4 244

Elites

Striking scorpions - 6 man squad
Exarch with scorpion claw, monster hunter 142

Fire Dragons - 5 man

Exarch with fast shot
in a wave serpent with holo field, vector engine and twin scatter lasers 380

Fast Attack

Warp spiders - 5man squad
Exarch with spinneret rifle, marksman eye and fast shot. 140

Heavy Support

Fire Prism with Holo field and crystal targeting matrix 165

War walker * 2 with scatter lasers 140

Total 1496

Bit more playability for objectives with 4 bike groups, even though only 3 in a squad, got a 3+ save and can nip about.

Scorpions with Karandras can get into the deployment side quickly and hit hard and fast as scorps can now fleet and the spiders have good baiting ability and the exarch gets that chance to kill a marine a time almost guaranteed.

War walkers rely on guide\doom and lasers for anti air.

The Twilight Zone

I would take 1 squad of 6 jetbikes and 2 squads of 3. The small squads for scoring, but a bigger squad for shooting if needed.

The exarch with fast shot gives you the extra shot from 6 dragons, but it costs slightly less. However, you can run the 5 dragons naked. If you ever find yourself with a few points laying around and nothing to take, iron resolve is not terrible for the exarch.

Consider tossing marksman's eye from the spider exarch. It won't matter all that often due to look out sir and invul saves on characters, but if you want to hunt special weapons I can see the appeal.

A singing spear on the farseer is always good if you have the points.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

beat you to it re: marksmans eye, I misread the rule as more like rending type deal on a 6, not pick out characters, so can swap that for a singing spear etc gonna play about with the fragons and see about removing the exarch to free up points for things like extra exarch bits and the like. etc.

My mat is very keen to play against it as its a different elder army than we normally see. The 3 groupf of 2 small and one big bikes is a good idea
