Hello! I'm still building my army, and I would like to know what to build to make some useable base army from what I would make lower point armies. I don't like powerblobs people talked about so much in tactics threads. My hearth beats for mechanised assault and heavy armor. What are your toughts? What to do with those 14 remaining points? Double FOC is in effect HQ Tank Commander - Vanquisher + Battle Tank + 2x Camo + Vanq. Lascannon = 355 Pask - Executioner + Eradicator + Plasma + Bolter sponsons = 395 (Warlord for rerolling Gets Hot!s) CCS - Astropath w/ laspistol + Carapace for everyone + Auto-Reliquiary + Vox + Plasma gun + Autocannon = 219 2x Primaris Psyker + ML2 = 150 Troops Veterans - Chimera + Grenadiers + 3x Plasma + Boltgun + Vox = 191 Veterans - Chimera + Grenadiers + 3x Plasma + Boltgun + Vox = 191 Veterans - Chimera + Grenadiers + 3x Melta + Boltgun + Vox = 176 Veterans - In Valkyrie + Harker + Sentries + 2x Sniper + Autocannon = 139 Fast Attack Hellhound - Dozer Blade + Flamer + Augur Array + Storm Bolter = 160 Valkyrie - Rocket Pods + Bolters = 155 Heavy Support Manticore - Camo = 185 Avenger Strike Fighter - Hellfury Missiles = 170 (I would use naked Vendetta, if opponent won't play against Avenger) Total: 2486p Total: 14p Vehicle: 10 models (4 Tanks, 6 Chimeras) Aircraft: 2 models Infantry: 48 models

i like it and the 14 points i'd say throw some krak grenades on Harkers squad to make up for the fact everyone else has melta bombs.

Not true, Grenadiers give 4+ armor. Demolitions give meltabombs.

That is a nice loophole with the "Old Grudges"...re-roll "Gets Hot!" with a Pask Executioner would be pretty awesome...further consideration for adaptation into my army will commence...
Why the Augur Array...you don't have any deep striking units so put the points elsewhere?

Pask can't be your warlord as he doesn't have a ld value, he can only be it if you have nobody with a higher value, and you have he CCS

As for your tank squadron, I suggest this build: Vanquisher with LC and MM 2x Exterminators with HB and HB sponsons, Stubber It gives you a fantastic armoured unit that can take on a number of roles. Firstly, it deals with light armour very well, averaging 3 hull points against AV 11 with the heavy bolters alone. It also makes up for your anti-infantry weakness, by ensuring you have a lot of dakka to throw down in a turn. Finally, pask can either add his S8 Spam to the mix, or target another unit. You can reliably expect pask to knock out an AV14 tank over two turns, averaging an explosion result about 1/4 times with the vanquisher cannon. I would suggest this same build on your second tank commander. As much as pask in an executioner sounds nice, pask will never make back his points manning a plasma cannon. Seriously. Blasts are not the name of the game these days, you're better off not bothering with them. Blind is also not a reliable or even marginally useful rule in a guard list, since very rarely will BS1 make any meaningful difference to the unit you want to shoot with a plasma cannon.

I thought tank commanders could be your warlord as well as the codex says he can be, and I thought codex trumps brb?

I can't believe it's really that much of a debate. I coulda sworn codex trumps what the brb says and the codex pretty clearly states that he can be your warlord. The white dwarf even said you could take a russ as a warlord.

Couple of things. First, the large blast with blind had a lot of appeal to me as well. I found a couple of downsides to it though. The blind is unreliable, as you rely on your opponent failing a check(depending on who you are shooting at this could be a long shot). The second was that you give up the 3 small blasts for 1 large blast. Over all the multiple small blasts are more effective at covering your target than the single large blasts. Secondly, I recently ran Pask in an Executioner with PCS and HB for an 1850 tourney. In his squad were two other Executioners set up the same. There were many times where this setup was extremely gratifying (15 PC shots into an enemy that re-roll gets hot is enough to put an evil grin on anyones face  ), but I also found myself wondering what I was thinking bringing Pask in an executioner more often than not. I would recommend trying it both ways, but based on my experience I would take Pask in a punisher with executioner squad mates.

Thats good, I get what you suggest, but that would be another 300 more points that i don't have.
I can't drop troops.
Maybe drop Hellhound, Manticore, but I find it useful. Some reliable anti-infantry and indirect rocket artillery.
Replace Valk with Chimera or drop Avenger, but then I'll be without air support. (And when I own the Avenger model, I won't let it get dusty on the shelf.)
Maybe I will replace Eradicator with Exterminator, then add another one and keep the Executioner. Find 150 points is easier than double.
Next thing is that Warlord issue. Maybe I'll be forced to make more changes.
