Hi all, I've been getting together some nids which up until now has been purely for painting purposes, so been buying models regardless of how they would fit into an army of any size.

So far I've painted up:

1 Trygon / Trygon Prime / Mawloc (Magnetised so could be any of these)
24 Hormagaunts
3 Raveners
1 Zoanthrope
1 Venomthrope

If I was to start looking to put these fella's into an army, where would I go from here ?The friend who I'm gonna be playing loves his Space Wolves, so that'll probably what I'll be matched against most.

Any ideas as to where I should be heading from here, and even some lists? I know I need some HQ, if it helps I really like the idea of CC based nids.

Cheers

Some Tomb World in some galaxy by that one thing in that one place (or Minnesota for nosy people)

Well for one you need an hq for your warlord. Since you cant have a tervigon be a warlord and the tyranid prime is one of the hugest wastes of points your only real option is a hibe tyrant since nids need as much synapse as they can possibly get with the new IB chart being the hugest burden in the world.

The greatest loadout for a hive tyrant is to give it wings and 2 TL Devourers with Brainleech worms. He will be good for accompanying the raveners for getting up close and stayong in synapse. Also he has sitw so he will save your butt vs that nasty jotww that all SW players should take on the rune priest they also should have.

As for a list you could play roughly 800 points with what you have plus a flyrant.

HQ
Flyrant
2 TL Devs

ELITES
Zoan
Venom

TROOPS
12 Hormas
Toxin

12 Hormas

FAST ATTACK
3 Raveners
Rending Claws
Deathspitters

HEAVY SUPPORT
Mawloc

I don't know, as fast as the list is I would go with Trygon prime to sweep in behind the horma's and us the Raveners as a clean up crew. This list is going to be very agressive and need to hit assault in a hurry.

After an HQ tyrant, I would get another 3-6 raveners and Red Terror. Being able to just eat that annoying multiwound terminator armored rune priest is priceless. You should also get another 24 hormagaunts. Two brood of twelve will just die .

Since you're playing a small points game and you're looking for CC themed, a Deathleaper is a decent addition. That -D3 to a character's Ld can really mess with his psyker's capabilities.

Also, if you're looking specifically for CC stuff a winged Tyrant with LW/BS would get you into CC quicker. I will say I used to like the idea of the Tyranids being a CC monster and playing said fluffy lists but that's pretty hard to do and have fun without just removing models (on your part) constantly, only to charge with 3-5 models remaining in a brood that won't do anything...

But to each his own, and if you're just playing with friends/family like when I play my dad then no big deal as he won't be running an optimized list either.
