Basically everything bunkers down in cover shooting at my army waiting for late game objective grabbing, while the centurions, coteaz, tigirius and chapter master, fly around the board using gates of infinity and getting prescience/rerolls of wounds/ignores cover/whatever hes rolled for.

Idea is to put praetor and 10 cataphractiis in the spartan, use the spartan and dreadnoughts lascannons on the tanks/quad guns. while the vindicators chase the centurion squad around using potms to blast them apart. while the fire raptor flies around giving support to where it is needed.

Why the huge Close Combat threat? 11 cataphractii with shields/hammers/claws is overkill against everything he could possibly throw at it. It's cool you're trying to use the Spartan to it's full potential but I don't think that's the way to do it... At least not against his list. If you were playing someone with a Seer Council... Maybe. But even then, it would probably be overkill. Idk it just seems like this takes up a HUGE chunk of your list and will not end up doing a whole lot in most games. His biggest CC threat is the inquisitors band. Which is capable, don't get me wrong, but nothing to freak out and bring 10 assault terminators for.

haha I'm usually a templars player so have a penchant for smashy assault squads, would you recommend splitting it into 5 hammernators and 5 shooty terminators?

I tried the list yesterday against another friends guard list, and I will definitely split the 10 man cataphractii into 5 hammernators with the Praetor and 5 shooty terminators.

I took the rite of war where terminators are troop choices, they were unbelievable at holding an objective and mowing down stuff coming towards them, though I think I was quite above average for rolling their saves. The squad weathered shooting from 3 sentinels, 1 plasma vet squad, 1 company command squad, grey knights, and two vendettas surviving til the last turn.
