So I've been thinking about starting up a small Daemons army to contrast with my GKs (probably flying circus at first due to low model count) and have a few general questions about the models and availability.

Anyone with Daemon models in resin - how is the quality of the monstrous creatures (Fatey, LOC, Bloodthirster, etc...)? I only have a couple of small failcast models and they've ranged from annoyingly pock marked to pretty good. The most recent ones have been the best, but still not even close to plastic. Is it worth going way out of my way to find them in metal? I think I probably know the answer to this question already, but eBay doesn't really have metal Fateweavers/LOCs coming out its and I prefer models NIB anyway.

It doesn't sound like there are any concrete rumors about what is happening to GW's resin line besides the dropping of the finecast name. Fateweaver is still in stock on the British webstore but not in the U.S. and I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not the resin models that have been out of stock lately have become available again? Or if there is any other convenient way to get one, preferably new and unpainted. I generally have my FLGS order me things (20% off ) but considering it's not in stock on GW's site it probably won't magically available to the local store.

I have been wanting to paint and play something other than marines and guardsmen for quite a while, and any help on where to get started with Daemons while GWs models are in such a seemingly random state of availability would be helpful!

Thanks

Edit: Any suggestions in 3rd party Daemon MCs?

Just buy non GW models, there's loads of options for daemons because of the nature of the army (it is actually unfluffy for them all to look the same!)

Only an issue if you play in a GW store, but as a Murican, I doubt that's too much of a problem.

GW stores aren't a problem, I've never played in one. My gaming group is also pretty relaxed, though it is generally 100% GW models (more likely out of laziness than purity though).

Would you have any recommendations on manufacturers that make alternative Daemon models? Preferably just for the MC's...

I'm building a daemons army based on this very philosophy, the only thing I'd suggest you don't waste time on is the lesser Daemons, the plastic GW ones are, surprisingly, the most cost effective. For DPs, GDs, other smaller units, there's loads of options. It can also allow you to use all units in the book but modelled after a specific God of that's your thing (ie Nurgle Flamers or Tzeentch Seekers)

For a flying circus list, Mierce are always a good source for me, as are Pegaso and Andrea, they make some good 54mm scale stuff that looks about right as a DP in a 30mm scale army.

Awesome, thanks!

Edit - Does anyone know the scale of these models compared to the 40k line?

I don't know for a fact, but given Reaper's generally low pricing, for a mini to cost that much, it is probably large enough that it needs a 60mm base, which means that's in Daemon Prince territory, but that's total conjecture on my part.

The skulls on the base, if compatable with GW scale, would prove you right.

Ultaforge has really nice looking Greater Daemon and Daemon Prince stand-in models, but they are expensive.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.
