I'm starting a new army of Guard, with bronze armour and red fatigues (think Vostroyan colours on Cadian bodies) but I'm not sure of the colours. I know I'd like a drab red, so I'll probably start with the Army Painter's Dragon Red spray, but I'm not sure where else to go. What paints do I need?

Thanks

CC

Chaotic red spray and then weapon bronze for armour?

Also, are you using the same colours for vehicles?

I was thinking red with grey camo for the vehicles.

I hadn't thought of using Army Painter paints! I was going to use Citadel colours, but in retrospect that seems a bit of a weird way to go!

I'm taking design cues from the British army during the Napoleonic Wars (I'm converting them using Empire bitz) so I'm thinking of giving them grey trousers and red tunics. Not sure if that's too many colours in one place though.

As long as it's done right replicating the redcoat style would look great, but the trousers were an off white colour, only one or two regiments wore grey. It would probably be worth dry fitting a model with all the conversions and having a good look at it, decide just how much it looks like a redcoat and go from there.

OT: Actually, it depended on the Theatre of Operations. Redcoats in warm climates (Spain/America) wore white canvas trousers, while those in Europe (the style I'm going for here) wore grey wool trousers.

Topic resumes: Tbh, they don't look that much like redcoats. They're Cadians with Empire muskets given lasgun muzzles. I'll put some pictures up for a project log once I get started on the painting. But at the moment I just need a workable scheme.

Do mechanics red then red gore then a wash of agrax earthshade then a highlight of blood red and for the armour do boltgun metal with 2 washes of saraphim sepia and one of agrax earthshade it should look bronze or try rhinos brown/auric gold 50/50 then drybrush auric gold
(Sorry for the old paints still haven't gotten all new ones yet)

Sounds good. One question - why not paint the armour bronze in the first place?
