So I'm trying to make Iron Warriors for friendlier games, but with some restrictions. I want this to be as competitive as possible, under the conditions.

Conditions are, will be taking 1 Helbrute, 1 Heldrake, and 1 Landraider, no matter what. No more no less.

I also want to avoid taking any devoted crap, or even marks. But Demon stuff and mutated gak like Spawn and Oblits whatever else arefine though, I'll make it look mechanical and fluffy even by using other models or something.

I'm thinking taking 30 Cultists for the dataslate cultist mob is probably the smartest way to run a Helbrute, so I'll be taking them too. In fact the only really fluffy option seems to be cultists so I will take 2 more squads of these to be my troops. I think a Demon Prince will likely be my HQ, or maybe a Warp Smith.

From this point on, I'm kinda lost for direction. Bikes going to do well without Lord or Nurgle marks? Seems unlikely. I love Oblits but not sure if worth it vanilla, one of the best thing about them is that 6 pt MoN . Something badass to put in the Land Raider? I also think the Forgefiend is very fluffy and cool, have heard bad things about the performance and I've handicapped myself enough for fluff purposes already just to include one because its dope - if it works though I would like to put this machine in. Any suggestions on the best ways to kit all the units are much appreciated as well

Just to recap, so far my list is

Headquarters:
Demon Prince

Troops:
30x Cultist
30x Cultist

Fast Attack:
Heldrake

Heavy Support:
Land Raider

Formation:
Helbrute
30x Cultists

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

List seems ok for a good building block. The hellcult formation needs two units of cultists, so I would make those the
30 strong ones. And maybe have one small one to hide away and take objectives to fill the compulsory. If you are taking a land raider, you need somehtjng in it. Without marks you're limited! The warpsmith can go in there . (Fluffy iron warriors, you need a warpsmith.) And repair hull points. Use cultists to stop meltas getting close.
Close combat units to go in the landraider... possessed or chosen? Without marks theres not much option. Or terminators, why not. Theres nothing wrong with the forgefiend or maulerfiend. If you're rushing forward with the land raider, you want other fast things to support. 2 maulerfiends and two units of spawn, if I were filling out the slots. Solo deepstriking oblitorators are pretty good too.

Consider investing in belakor over the daemon prince, he's pricey but effective (and no mark!) he can make the land raider invisible and hide behind it.l!

I dont think your fluffy choices are limiting you here. The only thing I would take that you can't are more helldrakes

A couple thoughts, perhaps drop the Demon Prince and add a Warpsmith and Abbadon. Put them in the Land Raider with a 7 man strong Chosen squad. Loads of attacks and can toss a couple flamers in there for good measure. Loads of CC killing power with no Marks. And scoring.

Forgefiends are not seen as competitive because they are pricey for what you get. As for loadout on one, personally I'd keep it stock, 8 S8 shots is nothing to scoff at. Perhaps consider a Maulerfiend or two. Fast, with Lasher Tendrils can hold in CC vs. a lot of stuff, and eats vehicles.

Bikes are a good option. T5 is still ok and their speed will help mitigate potential threats.

The one thing I don't see much of is anti-air. Granted Tau and Eldar have drastically altered decisions concerning even bringing air units, but that doesn't mean you can forgo defense from them. Perhaps an ADL with a Quad Gun is in order? Cultists can hide behind it and someone can shoot the Quad.

No Havocs? I thought Iron Warriors had loads of these guys? Could help with the anti-air and with Autocannons can assist against MCs and vehicles.

Cheers!

I think a Maulerfiend that you say is your daemon prince makes a lot of sense for Iron Warriors, then a Warpsmith to fix all those vehicles.

Mechanised possessed could be good in the landraider, I'm sure you want oblits. Other than that, I dunno... Bikes to give a little more speed?

I personally don't see how cultists are fluffy. IW is the opposite of Imperial Fists, and cannon fodder doesn't seem appropriate.

I would have expected to see AV13/14 spam, possessed dinonots (ad mech), and assault teams of Bolter BP CCW Melta Marines.

Something like shoot dreads, maulerfiends, mayhem formation, heldrakes, etc.
