Not really happy with what's available out there in terms of models for inquisitors and henchmen so I figure I'd start doing some conversions starting with the inquisitor. He needs no introduction.

Still some more carving, cleaning up, and sculpting to be done. Hopefully once primed, the conversions will become less pronounced. Still planning how I want to do the rest of the band.

Wow, that's a GREAT start! Eisenhorn, I presume?

And I agree, most Inquisitor models just don't do it for me.

You presume correctly. The selection of inquisition models is worse now that some of them are not longer available. Cherubael will be an interesting challenge. I'm thinking about using a C'tan Shard of the Deceiver as the starting point. Still investigating other avenues with fantasy models. Alizebeth Bequin will also be an interesting challenge. GW tends to lack decent female models that are suitable for the job, again looking to fantasy for some possibilities, even LOTR.. I'm a sisters player and I don't really see anything among those models that stands out. Might look to Forge World for Aemos, I remember seeing one figure that fits his description very well. I also need to go back through the novels and read up on the descriptions of many of the other characters.

For Alizebeth what about something from the Raging Heroes line? Or are you sticking with GW parts?

I'm not familiar with that line. I'll have to check it out. Ideally I want to keep it GW for the base model in so far as it allows me to get he resultsbI want, which may not be possible in this case.

A very modest update that took the better part of the night to do, mostly because (on top of waiting or the green stuff to harden) I was agonizing over how to do it, and once I figured that out, it became a question of whether or not I had the ability to pull it off successfully. I added the sling that presumably is what he uses to carry his rune staff when he's not using it. The model could easily have gone without it, but it's just one of those details that if pulled off successfully can better sell the model as Gregor Eisenhorn. Worked on streamlining the staff. Still needs some cleaning up. Still working on how and whether or not I want to attempt to put the buttons on his robe...coat...thing...whatever...Also in the artwork, the book is usually depicted as wrapped up in chains. Trying to figure out how I can pull that off and, again, whether or not I can actually pull it off. I need to dig up my copy of the omnibus look over the description of Barbarisater. Hopefully all I need to do is a little trimming and shaving of the base model's power sword.
com
For those that are curious, the sling was done by taking a section of the sling from an Imperial Guard arm in the command squad kit specifically the injured arm. Some green stuff was used to lengthen the sling and get it to curve as needed. The buckle was made using a piece of the mesh in the photo etched brass component of the 40k basing kit.

Awesome! That's a really nice conversion and paintjob, looks radical! Keen for the rest of the retinue

Thanks. Found a few minor things on it that need some touching up. Nothing that would noticeably change the appearance outside of close examination. I'll put that off till later.

Currently, I'm planning that the next one I do is Alizabeth Bequin. The Dark Eldar Lhamaean is looking like the best overall candidate to serve as the base model. Uber Aemos will likely be next with a Forge World savant as the base model. Godwyn Fischig is still an uncertainty, but I'm leaning toward a Tempestus model, or a Space Marine scout. Medea Bentancore is another uncertainty. If I had to venture a guess off the top of my head, I'd say a Dark Eldar wych might be appropriate. Then, of course, there's Cherubael. Neither of the daemon host models really satisfy me so I'll have to come up with something. I think I mentioned in a previous post that I might try using the C'Tan Shard of the Deceiver. I'm also looking at some fantasy models for inspiration.

Can't believe I didn't think of this earlier. When I first started the work on Eisenhorn, I was wondering how to do the book, since it's usually shown as being sealed by chains. I could never figure out how to do it, and my ability to sculpt with green stuff leaves much to be desired. Then it dawned on me last night when I was thinking back on when I used to build 700 scale model warships. Some of the kits had anchor chains. Did some searching and found some small scale anchor chains so I placed an order. Hopefully when it arrives it'll be of the right size and I can modify the Eisenhorn figure accordingly.

Probably not the best picture that I could have taken. The 1/700 scale anchor chain that I ordered finally arrived. I'm looking forward to adding it to the Eisenhorn figure, specifically around the book replacing the horrid green stuff straps I made. I bought quite a bit of it, so I will probably use it for when I try to create Cherubael.

Well, the 1/700 scale anchor chain worked really well as far as I'm concerned. I bought quite a bit of it so I can use it for other projects such as Cherubael. Alizabeth will be the next one I do but sadly the model I want to use is out of stock so in the mean time, back to working on my Sisters of Battle.

Looks great. A great representation of Eisenhorn in his prime.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the rest. That trilogy is probably my favourite collection of BL books.

I agree. It's such a well written series. Especially for someone like me who doesn't necessarily care to read an entire chapter that is completely detached from the main character my favorite characters. On top of that, I've never read another book where there wasn't a character that I didn't like. I think I read the entire omnibus within the first week that I got it. Didn't get much sleep that week. When I was deployed to Korea for an exercise a year ago, that book was how I passed most of my time on the flight to and from as well as in the tent.

I don't know if you're the same but I could never really get into Ravenor... which is strange considering it's in a setting very close to Eisenhorn.

I'm looking forward to the Eisenhorn vs Ravenor Omnibus in a few years. I was going to read the first book but think I'll just wait and read it all as one.

Have you read the Nightlords Trilogy by ADB? They're really well paced and are a very, very, very close second to Eisenhorn.

I haven't read Ravenor yet. Though I watched a video interview with Dan Abnett prior to the release of Pariah. He mentioned Ravenor in the interview and from what I gathered the writing style is a bit different from Eisenhorn in that it's told from a third person perspective largely because unlike Eisenhorn, the Ravenor books were more focused on the team rather than on Ravenor himself. That might contribute to the different reception of the book.

I haven't read the Night Lords books. I'm actually quite new to anything GW in general so I'm still in the process of branching out both in terms of the models as well as the stories. Regardless of what people might think of the corporate aspect of the business, it's hard to deny that it's a very rich story environment with lots of things to keep you busy with just in terms of literature. In many ways 40k is the polar opposite of my other major obsession which is Star Trek. One has a very idealistic future and the other is just pretty much embrace the suck of the grim dark future.

Well for somebody new you've made an excellent start!

I'll probably try Ravenor again, I just think reading it right off the back of Eisenhorn was a bad idea on my part.

The Nightlords books focus on a few characters in depth, exploring the Space Marines and the humans around them. They're well paced.

If you want to delve into the realms of the Horus Heresy some good books to read that are set near the beginning of that time frame are "The First Heretic" which is by the same chap that wrote the Night Lords trilogy, or "A Thousand Sons" which tell the story of Magnus and the the Thousand Sons fall from grace. Both are very well paced with interesting characters.

If you want to avoid the Horus Heresy era I've enjoy the Word Bearers omnibus and the Space Marine Battles: Armageddon is good read as well.

That being said I think the rulebooks and codex's are the best place to start. There's usually enough in there to point you in a direction you're interested in.

Little something I'm working on as I continue planning how I want to make Bequin. This is the Aphrael Stern figure from the Daemonifuge graphic novel.

Thanks. I decided to experiment a little with the livery, using techniques that I already use on a regular basis and then add onto them. I could never get a handle on blending. All you're seeing is just a base coat of Mephiston Red. Then washed with Seraphim Sepia 2-3 times to darken the recesses. Lightly highlighted the raised areas with Mephiston Red again, Then an even lighter highlight of Wild Rider Red. Brush on the Bloodletter red glaze. Very thin highlight of Fire Dragon Bright and then brush on some more Bloodletter red glaze. It was mostly an experiment with using the glaze. I find myself pleasantly surprised with the results.
