1849 / 1850
One variation I've done of this is one pushed together Chaos Marine blob of 20 for some punchy / shooty power, but I like the 5 scoring units better.

Basic Sorcerer HQ is basic but fluffy. Yay fluff. The Daemon Herald flies around with Screamers on the front lines trying to get a 3++ invulnerable with rerolling 1s on his squad with the grimoire, casting divination on frontline marines and chomping things to bits. Horrors are cannon fodder and fearless objective campers. Havocs autocannon things to bits. Chaos marines and Sons do what they best - eat Space Marines for breakfast.
My meta is usually pretty heavily space marine occupied, so I have always loved my Thousand Sons. However I do also see some trouble with other Xenos lists. Opinions?
