I just installed windows 8, (No choice in the matter, the computer store installed it), I've got internet sort of working (Won't work for games that use a launcher or programs that use a launcher). Steam games (Except War Thunder) can connect to the internet. I can't even use minecraft on the internet. Windows defender is off, and thats currently my only AV.

The error messages just keep saying that it cannot connect to the network or it times out. Googling has done nothing for me.

Turning to dakka for help. And no, I can't actually install windows 7 because it'll invalidate my warranty that I paid $250 for.

What do your overall Network settings look like? (not defender, just network)... if your net settings are set too restrictive/private, you won't be able to get out much.
