So, I've been thinking about starting a Dark Angels army, since I've had the ones from the DV set just sitting there unpainted.

Anyway, my question is- from a fluff-wise standpoint, would Chaplains, Librarians, or Techmarines attached to the Deathwing or Ravenwing have their shoulderpads painted in the respective colours of their companies?
Everything I've seen seems to point to the contrary, but, personally, to me, it makes no sense.

Any help would be appreciated.

Why doesn't it make sense? When Deathwing and Ravenwing squads are attached to other companies do they replace their company markings with standard green?

Librarians and Techmarines are attached on a temporary basis so don't bear company markings at all.

GW has been screwing around with Chaplains the last few years, or at least the guy making the organisation chart has (he also screwed up some vanilla things too), but the long-previously established fluff is that Chaplains are in fact a permanent assignment to a company - in which case Ravenwing would have its own Chaplain, who by rights should have Ravenwing heraldry.

Keep in mind that the Deathwing and Ravenwing are not like ordinary companies, but more like another layer in the secret organization.

You can be a member of the Deathwing and not be part of the 1st company. At the point where you've become learned enough to be a full Chaplain or Librarian, due to your status you've almost certainly been inducted into the Deathwing.

I don't know what the current codex says about them, but the previous codex stated that company Chaplains were not a part of the Deathwing/Inner Circle - they were left in the *cough* dark about it and expected to figure out the secret of the fallen on their own, if they did so they were either mind scrubbed if they couldn't handle it, or else promoted to Interrogator-Chaplain and the Inner Circle.

All Librarians are members of the inner circle however.

I'm building a Dark Angels army. My librarian isn't marked to a particular company, nor will any chaplains, when I get round to them. That said, if I ever build a bike librarian I'll paint the Ravenwing symbol on a kneepad. He isn't part of the Ravenwing, but they've given him the honour of depicting his association with them on his armour.

I would have to say that they are only attached to the company so wouldn't change the color of their pads or the symbols. Although I could be wrong. Not to mention a chaplain attached to the ravenwing would look cool all black with that cool company symbol B)

Also, chaplains and librarians are already members of the deathwing in a sense and don't have the broken sword on their shoulder
