Hey everyone,

Was just wondering, are tyranid gargoyles competitive?
Would it be worth picking up a squad of 20 or would i be better off with hormagaunts, some raveners or more warriors??

Currently i have 2 flyrants, 3 warriors, 20 hormagaunts, 10 termagaunts and 10 stealers.

Many thanks!

Well, if you ever run skyblight they will be required. I still find them to be a good unit. If not running the blight I tend to use them as bubble wrap for a flyrant. I tend to run them in a group of 20 when I do that.

They make a fair tarpit and with blind have come out victors in more battles than I expected.

Most of the competitive builds now revolve around skyblight. It makes the gargoyles siginificantly better (scoring + cant be contested, unit comes back after being destroyed on a 4+).

I like gargoyles a lot. I use them as bubble-wrap, and then a Tarpit. Don't expect them to win many fights, but they can help the survivability of MC's by tarpitting squads that threaten them.

Also they work very well for eating overwatch so that a flyrant can assault.

I like gargoyles, they are fun an usefull. (A huge pain to transport and move on the field though....)

I like them a lot more then hormagaunts. They are faster, as shooty as normal termagaunts, special venom attack and they are cheap. My favorites are still the dev termagaunts though.

Like everyone said, if you use Skyblight, you'll need them anyway.

-Hive Fleet Wyvern, yay for nids! (around 1000 points)

Nub question - specifically, what does "bubble wrap" refer to? in "bubble wrap a Flyrant"?

Bubble wrapping essentially is being around a more important object to give it a cover save, and to stop close range weapons that could hurt the main unit. Like guardsmen bubble wrapping a Leman Russ to stop close range anti tank weapons from getting in range.

Yes they're very good....but they are not Troops, so unless you are running Skyblight, "regular" gaunts are more desirable. Spending points on a Brood or two of Gargoyles is a pretty good use of points though (but you could be getting a FMC instead! )

If you run Genestealers...a Broodlord is a good buy, because it comes with "The Horror". This gives an enhanced pin test. And pinned units can be charged with impunity. It makes up for the whole "no grenades" thing....

Genestealers are little more than a glorified Broodlord delivery service.

So yes.

Can gargoyles still take toxin sacs in the new dex or in a skyblight formation?

Yes, though I'd save them for Skyblight swarms where you get them back for free if they're killed.
