So...

I'm not sure if this post is intended to provoke a discussion, or to act as a warning, but either way probably worth sharing..

I decided to pick up the (admittedly cheapest) digital IG codex, as while I don't play IG, I've always harboured aspirations, and it suits my desire to use alternate models from GW official ones at any opportunity.

I'm sure you can imagine my reaction when confronted with such lazy, shoddy, frankly, I have no words, pages as these..

I've seen some of the itunes books, and they look ok, the hotlinks to rules etc have tempted me to consider going digital if/when the next rulebook launches, but this? This is utter tripe, I tend not to get over emotional about stuff, but this has got me so angry I'm debating whether to actually complain or even demand a refund.

(The images aren't the only examples, just a few to illustrate something that runs throughout the book, and no, it isn't a new Catachan camouflage scheme either!)

Yeah, I agree. The iBooks are great, but the way they format their eBooks is fething awful

I'd demand a refund and cite why, that's pathetic!
I find the same issue in the digital white dwarves, it's just incredibly poor work from a team that large and for that price.

The images are there, but on a separate page to the caption, perhaps I didn't make that clear.

The apoc iBook is pretty bad the hot links are on the side and in iBooks tapping on the side makes you turn a page so now I can never find the rules for a warhound titan.

Well, besides the fact it shouldn't happen at all, I can't get the pic and the caption in the same page.

If I turn the pages forward and back, I can get a few of the lines from the caption on the same page as the pic, but then I just end up with a white page with even less text on it.

Idk what to say, as I am using a kindle to view it. It could be your device, a bug in the program that's used to open it, there could have been a error in the download.

Nope, it's lazy formatting, I've had the same issue across iBooks and Kindle (viewing the codex on the Kindle app on my ipad)

I could forgive/overlook it on £2 White Dwarf weekly, but on a relatively expensive product like this, it's unforgivable.

I'd second that actually, it clearly looks like a sub par product, you're clearly not happy with it. Try for a refund and see what GW/BL says.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I have the same problem... but only because you prompted me to look.

I jump over the hobby section of any codex, I can find much more inspiring material online.

What grinds my gears a lot more is that the same formatting is applied to the rules, and a single damn line gets thrown onto a separate page, when you could have made the page smaller and scalable.

I usually (see below) only purchase the IBook versions of their product, my only complaint is the load times in flipping between different books.

I had the same problem as OP, when I accidentally purchased the ebook version of something I wanted. Kind of annoying, and it's fixed somewhat by how you hold the device, but it still happens.

could not agree more with this...
i love the interactive iBooks Codex format, but can't stand the eBook format at all...
sadly, the White Dwarf Weekly format is the same as the eBooks:(, but the less useful, and way more expensive, Warhammer Visions has the lovely iBooks layout...

i am honestly happy to pay the $10 extra for an interactive iBook Codex, considering the alternatives are a cheaper, but ugly, eBook, or an equally priced hardback Codex that is full of typos...
plus, as the owner of WAY too many boxes of books in storage, i find the iBooks to be a godsend...

now the only issue is that i need to get an new iPad, with more storage, since i'm still on a first gen iPad...
it's amazing how big the iBooks files are for a magazine and codex...
16 gigs fills up fast!!!

cheers

Yeah, I get the impression that GW would actually prefer to not have to even do the ePub versions if they could get away with it.

The formatting on the ePub formats is lazy. I typically don't care much because I only get the things that are in iBook format, but that doesn't change the fact that it is lazy formatting.

Honestly, I blame android users.
