Evening! Please take time to help me out.

I am looking to include a squad of Sternguard Veterans in my Blood Angel army , i purchased a Death Company box and a box of the plastic Sternguard veterans. I have a slight problem , whatever i draw , paint , sculpt - no matter how much others like it , it doesn't look right to me , like a psychological block of sorts.I was hoping people could give me some tips on how they could look / pictures of their own models to serve as a guide for my own , hopefully this will help me before i need to seek therapy! (and yes I've tried google images , but its not providing much inspiration) I want them to look ornate as a veteran should , but not over the top , is their anything apart from paint scheme that could give the squad more unity in terms of how they will look on the table top?

Thanks!
