Subject: Cressius The Unbroken, Ironclad Dreadnought
A custom character I made for a local, Cressius The Unbroken of the Imperial Fists.
Rules herein in case anyone is interested:
Spoiler:
(HQ choice in a Codex: Space Marines (or Sentinels of Terra) army; may not be your Warlord unless you have no other HQ; may be taken as an Elite or Heavy Support instead if you have a Master of the Forge. May be given a Drop Pod for the usual points.)
Cressius The Unbroken
240 points
WS6 BS5 S6(10) FA13 SA13 RA11 I4 A3(4) HP4
Vehicle (Walker)
Siege Engine
The Old Foes
Not While I Stand!
Thundering Charge
Move Through Cover
Chapter Tactics: Imperial Fists
Master Crafted Seismic Hammer with integrated Gatling Bolter
Adamantine Aegis with integrated Gatling Bolter
Searchlight
Smoke Launchers
Ironclad Assault Launchers
Extra Armour
Adamantine Aegis - When Cressius suffers a Glancing Hit from a shooting attack from the front or side, he has a 4+ Invulnerable save against that hit. When Cressius suffers a Penetrating Hit from a shooting attack from the front or side, after the Vehicle Damage roll is made, roll a d6; if the roll is higher than the unmodified Damage roll, he suffers a Glancing Hit instead, ignoring the damage result, though does not get an Invulnerable Save against 'downgraded' hits. If Cressius did not move in his last movement phase, or only disembarked from a Drop Pod, add 1 to your roll when seeing if a Penetrating Hit is downgraded. In close combat, gives Cressius a 5+ Invulnerable save. Additionally, Cressius is adept at using the Aegis as a weapon, counting it as a Power Fist (extra attack included in profile).
Gatling Bolter - 18" S4 Ap5 Assault 4, Suppressive Fire - Pinning against any unit that is not afforded a cover save from terrain (as opposed to from Jink or other special effects). Note that the unit -having- the cover save is what is important, not whether it takes it, so units in cover that have better armour than the cover save are still immune to the pinning effect. Also counts as a 'Bolter' for purposes of any applicable effects.
Siege Engine - Cressius benefits from the Siege Masters portion of Chapter Tactics: Imperial Fists despite not being a Devastator.
The Old Foes - Cressius has Preferred Enemy against any unit containing a model with the Veterans of the Long War rule.
Thundering Charge - If Cressius launches a successful assault (non-disordered only), he inflicts d3 Hammer of Wrath hits, and any model in the assaulted unit that is not Relentless has -2I that round.
Not While I Stand! - Despite being a vehicle, Cressius is a Denial Unit.
I had trouble designing his shield in a way that would look like a big slab of metal but also look mechanical and Imperial; not completely happy with the result, but thought it good enough. As an aside, old gift cards work great as plasticard.
Also had planned on making his weapons Heavy Bolters, but they were too bulky, so I went with the Gatling version and just accepted that it looks like he has hard nipples.

I wouldnt bother creating a whole new kind of bolter, I'd just have them as 2 TL'd storm bolters with rending or something personally

Smoke Launchers
Ironclad Assault Launchers

this is VERY convoluted, I'd say just 4++ vs glancing, 5++ vs pens, if cressius has not moved (other than disembark moves) he may reroll is invulnerable save (although this may require the invuls becoming a 5++/6++)

what I said above, you really want to keep the special rules/wargear as low as possible, so I'd go 2x TL storm bolters with rending or something

I'd change it to something like "Cressius has hammer of Wrath (d3), When an enemy unit suffers an unsaved wound from Cressius's Hammer of Wrath immediately reduce their initiative by 2 that round (to a minimum of 1
Not While I Stand! - Despite being a vehicle, Cressius is a Denial Unit.
besides that, I like him, also, did you think about mounting the bolters on the sheild and having the ammo clips on the inside of it?
I have half a mind to kill you, and the other half agrees

That was actually my initial intent, to have the bolters jutting out from behind the shield, like on each side of his hand. However, the Ironclad model had those spots for weapons on the bottom corners of his torso, and it looked a bit weird with nothing there.

The model looks very cool. The guns do look a little much, but that might just be because you don’t generally have a lot of shooting on something as CC focused as he is.
The rules are meant to be slightly over the top without being broken. Was going for a series of characters that are very appealing to use but don't break the game, much like some of the more powerful existing characters.
That being said, the league in which we are using these isn't for a few months, so there's plenty of time for tweaks.

Thanks everyone for all the positive feedback!
I do quite like how the hammer turned out. For reference, it's the Assault Drill for the Forge World Dreadnought, plus a cut-down IG Lascannon.

I like him. I think he might be a bit undercosted as is but the model is awesome. Makes me think of Austin powers though: "machinegun jubblies! How'd I miss those?"
