I didn't know where to post this at as I am new to the forums. But I was really wanting to start a SW army and I am worried that I'll be waisting my money on models that will soon be out of date and have to proxy. Not to mention having to buy a brand new codex :/
So if I borrow my friends SW codex and start my own army, from you're personal experiences with new releases do you think the SW are "safe" and won't receive major remolding, equipment, and units being removed?

This is probably better off asked down in the 40K tactics or army lists section,

but that said

If the unit has a plastic kit you're safe buying it as it will still be around whenever a new codex drops

Characters that are in finecast (or even worse metal) might be removed or might not be you just can't tell

Anything that does not have an official GW model available to buy will be removed so buying a proxy is not a smart move if you are thinking of the future

If you keep this in mind you should be safe (and if your mate is happy to lend you his codex borrow it while you learn the game, get your own when your sure you want to continue with 40K or when a new SW codex comes out)

Also any unit that has multiple weapon choices should be magnetized. If you magnetize the arms so that you can change weapons that saves you a HUGE amount in the long term because when new codex land they can often change up the weapons considerably - from changing the limits on how many of a certain type can be used - to changing stats - to even adding and removing weapons.

By using magnets you can just swap and change and save having to pull apart assembled and painted models or re-buying.

Well with the new dex releases nothing really got "changed". I mean a few models got reworks like Nid warriors but nothing out right huge. And a lot of the SW finecast models are important to the fluff so would GW actually remove a characters like Ulrik, Ragnar, Grimnar, or Arjac?

But wolfguard/terminators, Grey Hunters, sky claws, blood claws, and long fangs are fairly safe?

Well I mean if worse comes to worst I can always just sit and wait and if the codex is nerfed to crap I can always go Ultramarines, Iron Hands, or BA... But from everything I've read GW likes keeping SW close to the top in competitiveness. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that won't happen.
