With all the talk of Blood Angels vs Orks, it got me thinking about 40K traditions, like the Blood Angels being furious at the followers of Khorne for a Bloodthirster breaking Sanguinus' back (Back before it was Horus who killed him... ah, background wiggle. How we love you.) As time has gone by, certain factions have been aligned against other ones, sometimes shifting a bit to make room for new people. Blood Angels having a hate-on for Chaos was pushed aside for the Dark Angels, where it feels nicer. This moved the Blood Angels to being a force that fights Orks often, dislodging the Space Wolves from there. Space Wolves still take issue with Chaos (With Thousand Sons getting a big nod), but also have an ongoing rivalry with the Dark Angels due to their primarchs.

So, in a sort of negative-universe of Allies and Battle Brothers, I'm curious to see who you think is a natural match for a different faction and why. Do Eldar and Space Wolves clash because of the timeless pretty boys vs badboys storyline from time immorial? We know that Ultramarines and Tyranid have history, but when the 'nids aren't around, who do the boys in blue prefer to blast away at? Do the Dark Eldar regularly steal from Necrons in a case of Xeno-on-Xeno violence, or should they instead be focused on the Imperial Guard, who don't really seem to hate anybody but are willing to fight *anybody*.

So, who should be fighting one another? I'm curious to hear what you think.

Word Bearers and Sisters would be a fitting match-up. Both fanatical zealots, but devoted to fiercely opposing faiths.

Edit: oh, saw it was more about the preferences of individual factions.

In that case, another one could be Death Skulls towards IG regiments. Lots and lots of loot to grab.

Orks vs Tyranids, both feed on war, neither fears death, both outnumber everyone else combined, both like to get up close and personal, and the two are waging the largest single confrontation in the galaxy.

Eldar vs Chaos/Necrons. The Eldar have a personal relation with both factions and a final reckoning with them is foreseen.

Tau Really like to fight orks. Most of their tactics are built around beating orks.

Crimson fists have a special boner for orks, for good reason.

Tallarn have a special hatred for iron warriors.

Cadians for chaos undivided

Zandrekh and his followers have a hard-on for necrons, and by extention, everyone since zandrekh thinks everyone's a necron.

GK seem to have a fetish for Sisters of Battle.

GK against daemons, obviously.

Krieg has a thing for fighting krieg.

Minotaurs love to fight Space Marines, as they can actually provide a challenge.

Nurgle and Khorne (and by extension, their followers) have a nice hate-hate thing going on. Same with Tzeenchy boy and Slaanesh.

I'm sure There's gotta be some fun inter-psyker rivalries around somewhere.

My EYES!!!! What has been seen cannot be unseen.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Ultramarines vs Word Bearers

These guys really, really hate each other, and have one of the most hate-fueled feuds in the setting after the Horus Heresy. The Word Bearers "blame" the Ultramarines for their shaming and look at the Ultramarines with a petty, spiteful jealousy. The Ultramarines hate the Word Bearers because of the horror inflicted upon the Five Hundred Worlds.

The Horus Heresy novels do a great job of building on this. Mark fo Calth is great in that regard.

Dark Eldar generally raid everything they can. The more exotic the slave, the higher the bragging rights when they get back to Commorragh. Though extremely rare, Space Marines are a big deal for both the Wych Cults or the Kabals. A SM can take a ton of punishment and last very long as a slave, but are notoriously hard to break. Wych Cults are known to love kidnapping Tyranid and Orks as they make excellent battle-beasts for the Arenas. But in general, any Dark Eldar group/ faction raiding any PDF seems to be their favorite fight. Poorly guarded human worlds are the ideal DE target because the flesh trade dominates and sustains the Dark City.

I was going to say this one.

Also, GK and Space Wolves. There's more than enough bad blood simmering there to boil over at any given opportunity. Given the fluff, I'm sure the Space Wolves would also LOVE to get a shot at any Dark Eldar they can get their hands on.

Imp Guard VS Orks is always a classic too, theyre both so widespread throughout the Galaxy and the fluff so constant around it.
Whilst not as glamorous as other dances, its still a classic.

In all honesty, I would love to see a starter set that isn't just IoM vs. Someone else and would love to see something like Eldar vs. Necrons or Tau vs. Orks. I know it probably won't ever happen but a nice change is sometimes nice.

I don't really know, it's not for me. From what I've heard, it got rebooted recently (twice, I think) and the first reboot was pretty well written, so developed a cult following. I've never bothered to learn more than that, because like I said, it's not for me. I was learning my own extremely-goofy fluff: WH40k. Still learning it, for that matter.

Yes Just Yes. Except we Eldar ended that war. Defenders of the Status Quo! ( )

Alright, DE players, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Spoiler:
From what I can remember of DE stories, Individual Dark Eldar Factions usually only want to 'dance' with Vect. Indirectly. Like, though a suitor surgically implanted with a black hole or something even crazier. Meanwhile, Asderbael Vect only cares about 'dancing' with any real threats to his power in a short but very, very gruesome dance-battles. Otherwise most DE just simply prefer to "stir things up" causing problems (in Commorragh or in the galaxy at large) and making sure no one faction can get ahead enough to have a shot at usurping the supremacy of the DE's (or Vect's, if we're just talking about him) power in the Universe (Remember: Eldar are arrogant, doesn't mean they are right). Example: The IoM finds the STC Panacea? Lady Malys pisses off an an Ork Waaagh, hits the planet where the STC was found with said Waaagh, then destroys the STC. All for the lols and the prestige that setting back the IoM brings back home. Or Vect kidnap a Salamanders Strike Cruiser just to get the SM to spark a War in Commorragh (to rescue their strike cruiser), all so he can kill of the Ruling factions (his main threats) and seize power for himself.
In short: The DE Troll everybody and everybody just wants to get a shot back at the Troll.

Craftworlds, on the other hand, seem to be single-minded enough to have a particular faction they hate. Aliatoc (now) hates all Necron. Ulthwe` hates all Chaos. Biel-Tan hates all Orks so much they turned devices meant to Terra (/Eldar?)-Form Planets into the Void Spinner. I think there's even a Craftworld that hates all DE for hanging out in the Webway. I wonder, does that same Craftworld hate Necrons now too, for the same thing?

From what I understand it, Eldar as a race just hate Necrons for the ancient war they fought before the Necrons decided to take their nap. It's something that Craftworlds would unit to take down.
