Dettol seems to do the trick, I usually leave mine in overnight then use an old shoebrush to brush the paint off

The purple degreaser that is found in the automotive isle works pretty darn good. The jug I have cost about five bucks at Walmart. I imagine it or another similar brand is available on the other side of the pond.

Isopropyl alcohol removes paint without destroying plastic or metal.

Fairy power spray!!! It's better than dettol and you can get it from wilkinsons for about £3
Just spray on leave and scrub gently with an old toothbrush

Dettol Liquid does work, but I find the odour too offensive and pungent
99.9% isopropyl alchol works better, faster and doesnt leave its stench behind on the plastics.
Fairy Powerspray (oven cleaner) does a grand job also, Id rate that over the Dettol based on smell alone.
The power spray and the isopropyl alcohol can have a model clean in minutes vs a soak over night in dettol too.
Pure alcohol is also safe for finecast resin and forgeworld resins. Cannot attest to the other twos stripping ability on those as I've never tried em.
Whatever you use, you will need a dedicated brush for the job most prefer old tooth brushes, they work really well, I'm keen to replace my electric tooth brush just so I can use the current one for stripping models

I've heard fairy power spray & simple green work, I've also heard that you can't soak a model in the power spray or it'll go soft, so you have to get the job done.
if you're stripping metal models, use brake fluid

I was a Simple Green convert for years, until I tried Super Clean. That stuff strips resin and plastic bare as can be.
Oh, and never use brake fluid, that stuff works but is toxic as hell and CANNOT be rinsed down the drain.

I've done fine with pine cleaner. It's not as efficient as some of the other choices, but I always have pine cleaner under the kitchen sink. The others, not so much.

The absolute best stuff to strip mini's. Might take a little longer then some others but I have never lost a figure and never had one the paint didn't come off.
