Some of my bits have gone a bit dull. Can I buy some piece of equipment to sharpen them, or am I just SOL? I thought normal drill bits had a sharpener of some variety, but I don't know if that's a thing when it comes to the smaller bits for a pin vise.

Anyone know?

You can sharpen bits, however with wire gauge bits, I normally do not (many of my larger bits are $30+ each...so those get sharpened).

The small size makes bit sharpening tools useless, so you will work by hand. You can use sand paper on glass, or a stone for your actual sharpening surface. Only need to hit the leading edges, but the angle is important.

Since it is something which a visual aid woould help with, I recomend googling the process and seeing how to hold the bit and the proper directions for the stroke.

Pin vice bits are so cheap it is hardly worth the effort of sharpening them.

Unless you absolutely cannot get replacement drill bits in your sizes, I wouldn't try to sharpen them. The risk of snapping them with the sideways pressure from your sharpening stone is just too great.

But if you must, you'll need a magnifying lens (to make sure you maintain the cutting angle of the drill) and an oilstone, or maybe a diamond whetstone, in a fine grade.

TBH if you're going to spend money on sharpening tools, you may as well buy new bits instead. Then you'll know they're good.

Not worth the effort. You can get bits good enough for resin and plastic for a dollar each at a hobby store. Plastic and resin dont dull bits much unless you are using a dremel on high speed and dont give the bits any rest. Even then youre more likely to melt your model than anything else

Problem is that I also do a lot of work with metal. (If I can't use plastic glue on a joint, I ALWAYS pin it if the pieces are big enough to support a pin.)

This.
And you should be able to find replacements online or in your local hardware store.
If you a pinning a lot of metal, I'd get local first if possible. You can shop for better quality
in person a lot easier.
