I always have trouble painting clean and smooth models. So i started collecting Tau and I want to paint them white with red stripes. Problem is that i cant seem to get this flat, clean and smooth look on my models. I am thinning my paints alot and I do whipe of paint on a piece of paper so its not overloaded. But Im still not able to get smooth or even :(. Please seriously please help me !!!!

Here is an example of how i want to paint them

The best thing that I can think of is to spray undercoat them white and then add the red over that.

You will be very lucky to achieve a consistent white on a model with a dark undercoat, or with a brush.

Cheers

Start with a grey basecoat and work up to very light grey with white highlights. If that doesnt suite your fancy then get an airbrush. Thats the easiest way to get a smooth white. You should still use a grey undercoat though.

The lightest greys look close enough to white to achieve the effect youre looking for and I used fortress grey on my black templar should pads built up from mechanicus and codex grey. Then I brush white where the sun would hit the pad and presto
