Hi guys ive been lurking quite alot and ive just started a 40k army, anyway i suddenly found out i need to prime my miniatures before painting, since i already ordered them i didnt want to wait another week for the primer before i get started, i live way up north in norway and theres no such thing as hobby shops here so the closest i could find to desired primer was Carat decoration and art plastic primer, it says not suitable for polyethylene but miniatures are made of polystyrene ive managed to research, its colorless and clear, i was wondering if it would work so im asking you guys before i take the chance to mess up my miniatures. so Carat decoration & art plastic primer(clear) yay or nay?

I don't know about that primer, but I use a Rustolum Painters choice primer with great results. So you don't even have to use a fancy decoration and art primer, I would go by your local hardware store and see if you have something like this.

thanks, i guess i just have to try, bought my primer at the local paint shop, i know the girl who works there should not be a problem getting a refund if its the wrong primer its just that most primer products i hear about are usually far away and need to be ordered via mail, i guess thats the price i pay for living at the roof of the world(finnmark) thanks SQRT i will keep my eye open for that brand, there is this U.S car parts shop in my little town i will take a glance inside and see if i find something resembeling rustolum painters choice, ive heard they might have acceptable primers at automotive shops

Jesus really? I bought a can of that stuff for a CNC MDF dice tower, it was an utter tragedy. Tacky for over a week, messy as all hell, really unforgiving stuff. I was actually pretty worried that acrylic paint wasn't going to stick to it without looking terribad.
I will have to give it another shot on some plastic and see how it goes, I was certain that I had just failed super hard

I like rustoleum and krylon primers in general. With MDF as with all wood products, do you need to seal them with a primer made for wood? I've found wood can absorb the primer.

Rustoleum says it is a wood primer, which is why I bought it, I wasn't sure if the Vallejo stuff would be good for MDF

I use a pretty basic automotive grey primer, or white primer from the same brand. They do not do black primer, but flat black paint seems to perform just aswell as the GW primer. Sometimes I go for beige.
Pretty much you want a flat matt spray paint.. theres seriously many brands thatle do, some offer actual primers which may be technically better. ymmv.
(I use Halfords brand int he UK.. simply because its around the corner)

I use this stuff with great results. I can go on a bit thick, so use sweeping quick bursts and be careful not get too much on the model.
It is my go to primer for terrain, vehicles or big minis. For exceptionally detailed (or oddly shaped minis) I use vallejo surface primer in an airbrush, but this stuff for most everything else.
