If anyone is playing Warhammer 40k or Fantasy in the Saratoga Srings, NY area toss me a line. I can occasionally make it down to Albany but work makes the 45 minute drive difficult.

Welcome to the area! While I live in the Saratoga Springs area myself, I drive up to Dirty Goblin Games for all my wargameing needs. Depending on your start point, the distance is about the same, but Glens Falls traffic is a lot lighter then Albany. Probably a 20-30 minute drive.

The 2nd Saturday of the month is the 40k Doubles tournament, normally 1,000 points, but it’s been known to change (last week was 1,200 a person). People will often show up solo and form teams that day, so feel free just to show up. The 4th Saturday is the singles, normally 1,850, but once again varies. I missed the last one, but IIRC it was 2,250 2xFOC lists. The tournaments are on the casual side, so don’t expect to face off against deathstars or other hyper-competitive builds. Start time is 1:00, $5 entry, 3 games, prize support. Even if you can’t show up on time, you can swing by and chat with the guys, possibly set up a game for later.

I know there are fantasy players around, and occasionally see a game. But I don’t get up there as often as I like. If you are looking for a game, you could probably arrange one. But a pickup game might not happen.

I know Zombie Planet and Flights of Fantasy down in Albany also do GW, but it’s been years since I’ve been down there, and that was just to shop. YMMV. I don’t think there has been a dedicated game store in Saratoga since the Sci-Fi shop closed up. And that was a bit ago now.

Quick edit: The doubles tournament this Saturday (May the 10th) is 1,200 per person, starting at noon.

I live in the general area. I used to go to the goblin a lot but it the trip to and back from there was too expensive. Let me know if you're interested.

Unfortunately, we live in the middle of a bit of a gap, but I hear you about the cost. When you are looking at a 20-30 mile drive, with the cost of gas, even with a reasonably efficient car, it cuts into the hobby budget.

I know there are a few places south (zombie planet, grimfoe, flights of fantasy) that might be closer/easier for you.

One thing to try if the travel costs are adding up is to set up games ahead of time via facebook or another way. This prevents driving all the way to get there, and not getting a game in. There are usually people up for a game at the Goblin on Wednesdays, not sure about the other stores. But it helps to set things up.

Welcome to Dakka, by the way.

Yeah Zombie Planet (Albany) has a pretty big Warhammer crowd. We get 10-12 people for game nights on Saturdays. AoS is played too on Sundays and there's a organied play event next Saturday. I can post links to the FB groups if you want. There's a couple 40k tournaments coming up in the fall if you're interested as well.

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.
