Ok so I have an x-wing tourny in a week and a half, while my list is set I am having trouble getting a list set for my son who will also be attending
He plays Imperials and we came up with this last night, was wondering if it was worth a look at
Turr Phenir
Royal Guard Pilot w PTL
Royal Guard Pilot w PTL
Royal Guard Pilot w PTL
100pts on the nose
Not the most durable list out there but with two actions and the plethora of green on the interceptor dial
I figured he could maneuver out of arc fairly easily
whatcha think?
cheers

Well, because i have little experience with TIE Interceptors lists, i don't see anything wrong. I would recommend putting the hull upgrades on the royal guard ships instead of PTL. You get them up to 4HP and will be able to take shots. and survive even longer.

It's a cool list, but I would be careful with a full tie interceptor list. They are very difficult to fly right. In my humble opinion, tie interceptors are best when you fly one, and it flanks for a regular force. It's much easier to keep one tie fighter out of firing arcs. Plus he does enough damage to hopefully break off a few enemies that try to follow him.
If you love tie interceptors that much, then run them by all means, they are my favorite ship to run.
Plus when it comes to x-wing, running a familiar list is almost always better than running a tournament list you've never run before.

Run them in wingman pairs, but split up frequently to use your maneuverability.
You'll have to watch out for direct damage abilities like bombs and assault missiles. With interceptors you pay for the extra speed and firepower, but no extra survivability. So, you can't soak up the extra damage as well.

Interceptor lists are tricky to play. Don't let that 3 evade fool you, they are very squishy. The key is to focus on avoiding return fire, even if it reduces the efficiency of your own firepower.
I'd go for just 4 Guard w/ PTL for maximum shenanigans, Turr naked just feels wrong.

I'd be very reluctant to take an interceptor list to a tournament. You need an undefeated record to win, or at most one loss if you have good tiebreakers. And over a full tournament you can almost guarantee that you will face a YT-1300 list, which is an almost hopeless matchup for interceptors. You can't use your superior maneuverability to avoid fire, while gunner ensures that you'll have to roll defense dice enough times that eventually you'll roll some blanks and take damage. And with only 12 HP in your entire list you have very little ability to take damage. You can win with a lot of skill and luck, but most of the time you won't.

This is really bad advice. A hull upgrade adds +1 HP, PTL adds +1 HP every turn by taking an evade action in addition to focusing, and can potentially add much more than that if an extra boost/barrel roll takes you out of arc entirely. Interceptors need PTL, period.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Well they don't need it, i was just saying put the HP upgrade because that's a guaranteed +1 HP. PTL just lets you perform a free action from the bar after an action. Don't get me wrong, Interceptors do much better with PTL but one guaranteed Whole point is pretty good.
.
UPDATE: I see what you mean now. PTL is a better choice in the long run.

I like expert handling on my interceptors as the barrel roll is usually one of the actions i take, it gets target locks off and it does not stress you

Especially now that the Z95 cheap missile platform, and assault missiles will be in much more common use.
The death of Interceptors is direct, no defense, damage.
Regular academy TIEs are cheap enough to soak some hits of that, but not interceptors.

Like Pere said, the death of the interceptor is the YT. I've faced an Interceptor list in each tourney and tore it apart with my double falcon list, without breaking a sweat. I love Turr. I love Fel. I love the look of the ship. But I can't deny that YTs tear them apart with ease. Your most useful skill as an Imp is maneuverability and being able to stay out of an opponent's arc. If you can't stay out of his arc, you've likely lost. And a YT's arc is everywhere.
