Hey all, my first post here yay!

My names Chris, I have just come back to the hobby of painting after about 15 years out. Don't play tabletop warhammer, but I do play board games like Descent, Level 7 etc and X-wing also card games like Netrunner.

Anyway, this is my first attempt at Airbrushing my first Terminator from the Space Hulk game I have never used or played lol, im useless I know!! I have had my airbrush about 2 weeks, and im totally new to it. Just read a few articles and watched a few youtube videos is all.

I thought I would post a work in progress so you could take a look. Still more painting to be done, but imo its looking ok! I suprised myself tbh!

Anyway. I hope to contribute more to the boards, I have an artistic background, I work in visual effects on films like Harry Potter, Total Recall, Jupitter Ascending etc so the painting side of thigs I really enjoy!! Kinda relates to my job as a camera TD and texture artist!

Thanks for looking, and don't be toooo harsh

First off, welcome to Dakka!

Secondly, well done on the work you have done in those movies, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous!

Thirdly, I've yet to try airbrushing myself, I'm a bit of an old fashioned painter (not long been back into the hobby myself). It's a great job after little time using an airbrush, just from what I've seen on these forums and what others have said, it looks like you may need to thin your paint a little more for a smoother transition in shades. Also on the brighter areas of the model you can see it almost has a powdery texture/finish to it in a couple of places.

However, more experienced people may say that I'm talking a load of crap

Nonetheless, looks great! Keep up the good work!

That is beautiful, but I would agree with thinning your paints a bit, both your air and brush paints.

I am not a big fan of the bolter, but that is a personal preference.

Great job!

Nice work dude. Although I would recommend painting the bolter barrels and some of the scope silver. Other than that its a great looking mini.

Thanks for the comments guys, hes looking ok, I know I will improve! Good Idea to thin my paints a little more, I used Vallejo model air for him out of the bottle. I have thinners etc so ill mix it up a little next time.

Hes not finished yet, I am going to paint a little more onto the bolter and add some text on his parchments and finish the seals etc!

There are plenty of tutorials online regarding the technique. But basically I undercoat black, then base coat him in Vallejo burnt umber with the airbrish almost almost horizontal to his chest 360 degrees around, this covers most of the model burnt umber but just leaves a slight transition from black to this colour in the darkest areas. Then I used Vallejo Model Air Scarlet Red at about a 85 degree angle pointed down from the top of the mini, but pointed towards his front left hand side more so his back is darker than his front! If you look at the model from the underneath you cant really see any Scarlet Red at all!

I wanted to go for an effect where he is lurking down a dark space hulk corridoor. And I tried to paint him in such a way that he looks a little dirty/dusty and go for a more edgy look, not to cartoonish that you see with some Blood Angel's.

I also used Citadel shaded like Nul oil to add more dirt and darker areas around the armour and in his elbow joints etc. I have done no highliting on armour edges or anything, its all with the Airbrush and the technique called Zenithal.

Im gonna crack on now,I will post some pics of more work soon, I got quite a few to paint!!
