This may seem odd but it came up in a game the other day and I gave him the ruling since I couldn't find a good argument against it.
Distilled Down / Simplified
In a unit of 10 Necron Warriors, each one has a Gauss Flayer. If an enemy unit is hit by 7 shots from the Warrior unit, would it be true to say that the enemy unit was hit by 7 weapons?
Reason why this matters
My opponent played DE Mandrakes which have a shooting attack, per model, that is Assault 2, Pinning. Per the rules of pinning, a test is required after the target unit takes an unsaved wound from a weapon with the Pinning special rule. Based on the wording and the simplified logic, we rolled each Mandrake separately to identify how many models/weapons inflicted an unsaved wound.
Did we do this correct? I know there's a number of other multi-weapon Pinning scenarios like the above out there (like snipers and the dakkajet) and am curious if we played it properly as it's different than I usually play it but find myself having a hard time finding an argument of rolling everything together and only taking a single test.
