"characterized by or tending toward unprovoked offensives, attacks, invasions, or the like; militantly forward or menacing"
"boldly assertive and forward; pushy"

Take the fight to the enemy!

Perhaps atypical for Guard, but I think it's a fun style of play. So, if you were to design an IG list that proactively wants to make use of the movement and assault phases, how would you go about it? Let's say 1500 points.

Here's my take:

  • CCS: medic, flag, vox, meltagun, Astropath. Powerfist and meltabombs for the boss, carapace for all.

  • Platoon:
    - PCS: vox, heavy flamer, 2x flamer, krak grenades.
    - 30-strong blob: 3x melta, 3x sergeant with power axe and meltabombs, Commissar with power sword, vox.
    - 30 Conscripts with autogun Priest.
    - Special weapons squad: 2x flamer, demolition pack (in Vendetta) (love these guys).

  • Veterans: forward sentries, lascannon.

  • Veterans: forward sentries, lascannon.

  • MT platoon: 10 scions with 2x melta.

  • Scout sentinel squadron: 3x lascannon.

  • Vendetta.

  • Leman Russ Eradicator: heavy bolter sponsons.

  • This comes to 1474 and there's plenty of fat to trim to make some changes if so desired.

The idea is to have the Vets on any home objectives with the two 30-dude blobs advancing with the PCS and CCS. Sentinels outflank and Stormies deepstrike, Vendetta drops its demo squad where desired, Eradicator in support. Some fluff sprinkled on with the voxes and flag and such, add or remove to taste. I actually might like to change the Vets into something more aggressive as well.

For upping the power level some points could be cleared for perhaps a Vanquisher Tank Commander (designate him warlord to make the CCS a less attractive target), or perhaps an Inquisitor with goodies, or a Primaris, or 'grenadiers' for the Vets, or mass plasma pistols, or...

So, anyone like to chip in with an aggressive IG list? Anything goes, (needn't be foot-based, needn't be fluffy, needn't be WAAC) as long as it doesn't have an Aegis .

PS: not entirely sure whether this should go in Army Lists or Tactics...

So very true, and even if they do make it there won't be enough left to make a difference.

    I would do something like,

    Tank Commander in Vanquisher lascannon
    Vanquisher lascannon
    320

3 Exterminators 3 heavy bolters and heavy stubber.
    465

    2x Vets in Chimera(multilaser/heavy flamer) w/ 2 meltas
    290

    2x Vets in Chimera(multilaser/heavy flamer) w/ 2 Plasma
    310

    3 Scout Sentinels multi laser
    105

    1490

Tank comander in vanquisher with lascannon
    Vanquisher with lascannon

    Commissar x3
    Priest x3

    Platoon x3
    PCS
    4 flamers
    IS x4 (blobbed)
    4 poweraxes
    40 conscripts

    Vendetta x2

    Inquisitor x2
    Rad granades, hammerhand, powersword

    2000pts

Each blob gets a priest or commissar. Inquisitors go in guard blobs but switch if squads they are in start to get decimated.
    6 40man blobs.
2 vanquisher cannons (1bs4), 2 lascannons (1bs4) and 6 tl lascannons for AT.
    6 tl lascannons for AA.
Mass hammerhand + rad granade + priest buffed attacks for anti mc.
Platoon command squads flamers help the already considerable amount of anti troops.

Show me an opponent that can say they can comfortably deal with 268 infantry without tailoring at 2000pts.

Hang on... just realised I forgot to account for 4 guard squads. Oops.

Does hammer hand effect the whole squad?

Deduct a valkarie, the flamers off the PCS' s and 4 conscripts. Now it is 2k. A bit more vulnerable to AA now though. Still scary mind.

I'm assuming you mean hth. In some ways Max shooting alpha strike is really how guard brings it hard to the enemy IMO.

Anyway, if you are thinking hth you are thinking Blobs. If you are thinking blobs you shold be thinking how to maximize blobs. And when I say maximize I mean either in quality or quantity.

With Allies you have a lot of options:

    SM - Beat stick Commanders
INQ - Liber hereticus gives you scout and you can get things like psycotrope or rad grenades or hammerhand
DA - Azreal gives a blob a 4++ and FNP
SOBs - Uriah that gives you all sorts of buffs and it opens up priests with hth weapons (s8 smash with maces)

Also think about other units that will get there first so that your IG don;t get shot up first.

SM - Drop pods, White scars or ravenguard in rhinos scouting turn one. Tigerious looking for the telport power attached to a centurion squad.
SOB - Dominions Scouting turn one
Daemons - Khorne dogs scouting turn on
CSMs - Arihman or Huron scouting people forward. Or units like spawn.
GKs - Scouting units or shunting forward
    Dark angels - scouting bikes

    IG Aggro list?

I'm new to IG, but I'd use this:

    HQ:
    -Yarrick [145 pts]

    Troops:
    -Platoon (1x CCS, 5x IG Squad, 1x Conscripts w/+30) [410 pts]
    -Platoon (1x CCS, 2x IG Squad, 1x Conscripts w/+30) [260 pts]

    Fast Attack:
    -Vendetta [170 pts]

    Heavy Support:
    -Manticore [170 pts]
    -Manticore [170 pts]
    -Manticore [170 pts]

    1495 points.

That's 180 men foot slogging WW1 style, with triple manticore barrages to clear the field ahead.
    And a Vendetta.

    Because Vendettas.

Ooooh I love that ww1 over the top style. Maybe like An ADL with 3 wyverns and 3 basilisk with inquisitors for prescience, and just 3 platoons with heavy weapons holding home objective and priests in 50 man conscript blobs and 30 man platoons with 3xplasma and plasma pistols on sarges with Primaris. Then A vendetta and one or two Valkyries. Awesome.
