So I'm wondering if anyone knows of a GW legal model that would suit for the position as a mount for a WE rider. I'm looking for something imposing for a lord/hero rider. Far as I can tell the only options are the space-wolves Wolf Lord although I can't find a clear sprue photo to tell me if the legs and wolf body are separate (the other SW wolves seem to have more mechanics on them or heavy SM style armour whilst other current wolfy models are oft small).

Is there anyone who knows if this will work with the Wolf Lord model or if there are any other older GW wolves out there one could use?

Also what happened to unicorns? We have them in the codex but there isn't a single one on the GW website at all.

The Space Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf is indeed separate from his mount. The saddle is on the wolf though.

A good suggestion KB but I honestly just don't like the warg models.

Thanks Winter - I also noticed that the left side of the wolfs face is mechanical - so that makes 3 areas to touch up on him (mechanical jaw - and part of one leg has bolts and the saddle - still less than wolves with laser eyes or full mech limbs).

Thing is I was sure GW had one or two large wolf models - but the only ones I can find are goblin wolves

Hi Overread - just to let you know it's HOW from TFF

Depending on how much modeling you want to do I'd either go with the Space Wolf wolves or The Thing in the Woods from Mordheim, which would need the head replacing or remodeling, the spines removing and some fur added, but is a pretty awesome model - if a bit expensive/hard to get

The Space Wolves Thunder Wolf Cavalry has 3 different poses, and there are heads with no mechanical parts. There are small mechanical bits in all the bodies, but they can covered over with Green Stuff easily. You can search for bits suppliers on eBay to see the different poses. The saddles are separate pieces as well, although they are simple saddles, not techy looking, but the straps under the bodies are molded to the bodies.
