Hi,

after spending a year playing Necrons and getting used to the amazing game of 40K,I decided to branch out and start a new army to get some depth and try something new, after reading through the codex a few times I now need a small hand putting together a competitive list for a league 600 points

I have all the figures from Dark Vengeance box set
The new attack force
and the old battleforce

can anyone help me make a decent army list out of the above

Maybe list what all that is for those hard of memory...

do you have access to any of the supplements or the hell brute dataslate?

Most importantly what HQ do you want to run? This will probably define your force. They are all good and generally its personal preference and rule of cool. (Ok ok nurgle lord on bike is probably best but not an autopick option)

Does the tournament have any restrictions in play? We had a tournament a while ago for chaos only where it was one HQ, one troop choice then we pick anything else. No artefacts though.

Go for a lord, two troops and then a havoc squad with aegis defence line. You have a fire base and strong anti air too

5 Terminators
1 Lord in Termi armour

and khaoschaos, only no named characters, HQ cannot be over 150 points and usual minimum 2 troops squads

Here's a very simple idea:

1 Chaos Lord
- Terminator Armour, Lightning Claw, Power Fist

5 Chaos Terminators
- Combi-Plasmas, Reaper Autocannon

10 Chaos Space Marines
- 2 Plasma Guns

5 Chaos Space Marines
- Plasma Gun

Change Special Weapons as desired.
Should work well enough.
Will get demolished by Heldrakes of course.


And another one, if you have some Marines with Heavy Weapons:

1 Chaos Lord
- Plasma Pistol, Power Sword, Sigil of Corruption

1 Helbrute
- Heavy Flamer

9 Chaos Space Marines
- Plasma Gun, Rhino

10 Cultists

5 Havocs
- 2 Lascannons, 2 Autocannons

Not more, but different kind of firepower. Possibly more flexible, but less durable.

For 600 eh? k points may not match exactly but I don't have my dex with me.

HQ and Elite-Termie lord with power weapon (based on the army you are fighting probably a sword though). the mark of chaos you prefer and then a retinue. normally with a termie lord I would say termie squad but since you don't have any let go with 5 chosen with combi-plasmas. a power weapon on the aspiring champ for god measure

Troops- 2x CSM squads 10 each with a rhino equipped with a havoc launcher, autocannon and plasma gun in each squad and power weapon on the aspiring champs

The above list is probably above 600 by a bit I think. if anything I say drop the chosen, deep strike the termie lord and take a helbrute, the multi-melta is good and maybe add the heavy flamer if you got the points.

luckily I know that the others are bring Space Marine and Variants (Wolves, Dark Angels) so would giving some troops VOTLW rule benefit? wont give it to a squad of Cultists because they are just going to be sat on a home objective

yeah against marines VoTLW is nice, it gives you the Ld bonus which is never a waste and then if you need to you have that important first round advantage against a squad in melee, for the little bit of points it costs I would give them to my basic CSM troop squads.
