I've recently acquired the new Imperial Knights codex in a desperate attempt to counter Riptides! I've squeezed one into my 1500 point salamanders list (in the army list forum) but I'm wondering the best way to utilise them. I want to use a knight errant as it fits the salamanders melta theme. But is he best hunting tides from a far, or with that beautiful destroyer strength chainsaw!

If people have had much experience with these then I'd definitely appreciate some hints and tips. I quite like the model, I'd like to use it.

Taking 2 is better then 1 for the sole reason of saturation. 1 is an expensive bullet magnet, 2 is scary in 1500.

Also shoot as you move, hop up as fast as possible and shoot, then charge whatever you can, if its a blob you have stomps, if its a MC you have a chainsaw with strength mofo.

Ok, as for charging, I'm assuming you can charge any unit you have shot at considering you can split fire as a super heavy?

Could you take a look at the list....I really can't fit two into the list I've built. But there will be a fair amount up in their face on turn one!

Go "Rawr" and shoot stuff with a thermal cannon

Honestly if you want your Knight to survive against Tau then your gonna have to overload your opponent on targets, aggression will be key, divert fire away from your knight to other units so your Knight can get close to gun-line and smash it apart..

Hope this helps

Well he's sat in a salamanders alpha strike list full of 5 drop pods with melta and grav. The idea is to throw three deadly pods in his face so he won't think about the knight.

Hmm, it works but only if you have 10 men (in terms of tactical marines) in each squad, I say this as they will get eaten up all in one turn and you are going to need more than one turn to be honest..

Does your group allow FW? I'm sure those pyroclasts would be tasty for your army

Nah, forge world tends to be a no go. This is my issue. I only have three pods dropping turn one with the knight on the board. 1 with a command squad in with 5 grav guns, 1 with a 5 man stern guard inc 2 melta guns and 1 with a ten man tactical in with a melta gun, combi melta and multi melta. 20 marines in his face with some pretty scary weapons to his farsight list and the knight walking up behind.
