Space Marines are a new army for me that I'm starting to like a lot. I've played several friendly games (not too competitive) in the 1000/1200 pt range.
These were the units that I took in my lists so far:
_____
Silas Alberec (and command squad) for fluff reasons
or Librarian in power armour
2 or 3 Tac squads (loadout varies)
in 2 Rhino's (and 1 Razorback with Lascannon)
I usually equip and use them for specific duties (infantry hunting, objective grabbing/denying, tank hunting, ...)
5 Scouts with camo cloaks, sniper rifles & missile launcher (Home Objective grabbing)
3 Devastator Centurions with grav guns/missile launchers
Bike squad with grav guns incl. attack bike with multi-melta
Jumppack Assault squad (I'm often hesitant to take them)
Stormtalon (AA)
_____
What do you recommend I take as HQ for 1000/1200 pt range? And what should I take if I want to expand the list up to 2000 pt?
I think that Silas costs too many pt for what he does (he's squishy). The Librarian has convinced me in smaller games but will he be worthwile in larger games?
Since I'm not actually playing UltraMarines (only their Tactics), I cannot take their characters... Although Calgar seems nice (I like loads of infantry and re-using the doctrines is nifty).
Would 2 librarians work?
I also seem to be lacking a heavy-hitting cc unit. But what can marines bring but the obligatory terminators in a landraider?
They seem to be such a heavy pt sink. Do marines really need them (in larger games)?
I'm personally thinking of adding a Thunderfire cannon and Devastators and maybe another Tac squad.
But then again I will be light on armour.. Perhaps I should add a Whirlwind or Predator?
I rely on the devastators and their doctrine & stormtalon to shoot down flyers.
I also like the landspeeder but I'm easily killing it if my opponent takes 1. Perhaps I should add at least 2 if I intend to take it?
Lastly, I like the Dreadnought model, it's iconic, but I think it will not be worth the points? Haven't tested it though...
Thoughts?
