My name's Bailey and I'm an amateur hobbyist. I have an extensive Tyranid army (7000 points ish), and a large chaos force (8000 points ish). I'm quite into the warhamer hobby. I have collected for around 7 years, and have accumulated a lot. This year I have started to get rid of a good amount of armies I've started but never play and getting rid of projects I don't want to spend any more time on. I am in highschool, so I am no painting or modelling god, but I do the best I can on projects.
I have recently finished a Lord of Change, and started repainting my whole Tyranid force Hive Fleet Leviathan. I'm doing this because I had painted the army some years ago, and didn't like the look. Although I am busy with my studies, I try to get work done on my armies as much as I can.
Right now I am trying to find a good skin tone and look for the bugs, in as less steps as possible. I have around 200 models in the army and want to get it done in as less time as possible, but to also look pretty good. My goal is to have the army done by the end of August.
My Tyranid army includes
1 Flyrant with lash/bonesword
1 Tyrant with Heavy Venom Cannon
1 Tyrant with Miasma Cannon
1 Swarmlord
3 Tyrant Guard
Over 30 Tyranid Warriors (mostly deathspitters, some rending claws, some barbed stranglers and venom cannons)
around 65 hormagaunts
around 80 Termagaunts
1 venomthrope
8 Hive guard
4 Zoanthropes
8 Carnifexes
2 Trygons
1 Tervigon/Tyrannofex (magnetized)
1 Barbed Hierodule
10 Gargoyles
So, right now my process looks kinda like this:
1. Primer of bleached bone
2. Drybrush of all skin areas 1 to 1 mix of skull white bleached bone
3. Wash of levithan purple 1 to 2 mix paint to water
4. highlight of all skin ares (except veins and joints) 1 to 2 mix bleached bone to white
5. druchi violet 1 to 4 mix of whole skin, rubbing off excess with thumb (This step gives a good last touch to the skin tone I find)
6. All veins and joints highlighted 1 to 1 mix carroburg crimson to water
With a few test models done, this was the one that had the best skin tone effect. Here's what that one looks like, and it took me around 15 minutes (excluding washes to dry)

The guns I tried out red, but decided to keep them the same colour as the skin.
The carapace is not done by the way, just trying to get a good skin tone colour.
