Anyone still actively using Catachans? As in, willingly buying them?
It occurs to me I've not seen any "in the wild" for ages.
Do people frown upon them or something ?

I use them a ton. Back in 3rd they were the only plastic IG infantry. As soon as plastic Cadians showed up, I moved on. The Catachan Codex was a lot of fun, even though I always lost with them. The jungle fighter angle was a nice guerrilla war flavor.

Think they still fit? Surely an IG army would have loads of mixed guys, cadian over there, catachan there, vostroyan doing stuff somewhere else etc

A new day, a new time zone.

That's the whole meta reasoning for why my IG army has units from pretty much all the IG ranges - it's supposed to represent a fighting force composed of remnants of other IG battalions too depleted to be their own fighting force any more.

So fluff wise would you have one unit comprised of all different dudes or would if be one unit of JUST cadian then another of JUST vostroyan etc

While the troop squad is horrendous, the command squad is actually very nice, and has some really useful bitz. So, if you count my commanders all being catachans, then yes, I do use them.

When in doubt, throw more men at it!

I just started putting together a catachan force. I think if you build your list around the guerilla style tactics catachan use its pretty cool looking. If youre going to play a gun line then it will look dumb. Rambo doesnt do gun lines.

I feel the need, the need for speed.

Ah I've got no real designs on how I want to run IG, just that I want some. Still trying to make sense of the codex.
Just occurred to me that I don't see catachan being used which seems a shame

I had loads of them back in the day but then you could buy those big box sets of 20 dudes for £12 or something crazy like that.

Most of my special weapons guys are Catachan (again to match my plastic troops). I will usually use my catachans as guardsmen or camo vets. Use cadians and my various Valhallan/tallarn/mordian etc serve as my various pcs and CCS. I'm painting samurai cavalry as rough riders. I use war games factory Storm troopers as scions and grenadier vets. My army is very mix and match. As cool as it would be to have a uniform look, I can't put that much money into it. I guess I'm mostly Cadian now.

I love the Mordian look and would love to see them in plastic. I love the pre-WWI look of soldiers in parade uniform going off to fight monstrous aliens.

I have an all metal army of Catachans. The plastics just don't appeal to me. Also, the command squad and infantry are in different scales.

Each unit would be composed of only one type. Like the mortars are all vahallan, the 10 man squads are all catachan, vallhallan, cadian, death krieg, steel legion. Although the officers and sarges tend to be appropriately mixed up.

My son had some Catachan guys he painted ten years ago age 12. I have been re-resuscitating them recently - fixing arms and paint job. I need a command squad, but GW is in dis-connect. They release a new IG codex and then all the various IG troop types except Cadians are 'temporarily unavailable' in their online store. If I was flying their plane, I would have all the various troop kits available (in plastic), when the new codex hit the stands. Maybe the corp. stores are carrying them. Anyone get the feeling GW is being run by business school types who don't play the game?

I've always thought they'd make good true-scale orks painted green and with ahead-swap. As IG, though, I hate everything but the command squad. Then again I don't like Cadians either.

The Catachan command and troop squads may as well be from entirely different lines. The command box is so much better it isn't even funny.

I still have a platoon of Catachans laying around. Not sure what I'll do with them. I want to sell them, but I wouldn't get much for them if I did since they're plastic glued.

I'll probably just keep using them and repaint them someday. They're not "bad", but they're definitely not good. May as well use them I guess.

At the prices they are now though I would never buy them. The command squad is a decent price but the Catachan troop squad is a ripoff for quality that laughably bad

Everyone at my area who started guard back in 3rd has a catachan army. I can't stand them though, much prefer cadians.

Honestly? It's $35 for 10 Valhallans on GW's site, and you can get them for cheaper on eBay. I've got a big Valhallan foot horde and I got them almost all on eBay for less than I'd pay for plastic Cadians or Catachans.

The Catachan kit is weird because it was designed by Jes Goodwin and both the Perry brothers, who are the three best sculptors GW's ever employed. Somehow they managed to make this one kit that just aged horribly, which is funny since they all have models going back to the late 80s that still look great in a modern army. You don't see Catachans around that often since the plastic Cadians came out, which are far better sculpts.

It's been said here that the Catachan heavy weapon/command kits are different though, and they definitely are. They have great bits, tons of options, lovely detail, and are far more proportional. I hope someday the Catachan infantry squad kit is redone to match.
