There is already a thread up but I don't wanna double post, I want to focus on a specific idea me and some friends have been working on for this game.

Already we have thrown out the traditional 4' by 6' table as this seriously limits space and support more of a skirmish mindset rather than a war.

I have a roughly 25' circle table in my backyard that we have adapted for pretty much any and all games we play and this more than accommodates our needs.

We really hate the concept of one player moving and shooting while the other player if forced to sit and watch, it feels cheap and unrealistic, not to mention one of our members is an army vet from Afghanistan and he finds the idea of someone running at you and shooting you while you just take it ludicrous so we have been working out ideas to make this game more interesting for us.

We played a lot of D&D and liked how each character and enemy was assigned a priority by dice roll in order to determine turn order and such and we were thinking of adapting this to fit our wargaming.

For example:

I have a unit of DA Tactical Marines and before the game begins I roll a D20 and get a 17.

My friend has a unit of Chaos Cultists and he rolls a D20 and get a 15.

We do this back and forth until every squad of units, Independent characters/Hq's and vehicles each have a number assigned to them. For now we don't have a bulk of guys so one D20 is more than enough, simply rerolling any ties had by people.

When we are finished it looks something like this:

Chaos Hellbrute 19
Squad 1 of Da Tactical Marines 17
Squad 1 of Chaos Cultists 15
Ravenwing Bike Squadron 12
Squad 2 of Da Tactical Marines 11
Squad of Chaos Space Marines 10
Squad 2 of Chaos Cultists 7

Then we simply follow the order from highest to lowest for movement, then the next down for shooting and finally any assault are first initiated by each unit that can assault and then finished as per GW rules.

We need to tweak it a bit and figure out a way to add more players to it as there are quite a few of use that want a massive FFA between our armies and it would get a lil hectic with this method.

Sounds fun way to do a small game, hmm complicates alot after a point though, dunno each person. Moves a class is hevey support, fast attack instead of individual units?

Or device armies into roughly equal chunks, so sections move based on units you use together anyway, like a team of sqauds or armoured formation of few tanks.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

I like it actually.

Break it down for each unit type.

HQ
Elite
Troops
Etc

Then have them all roll of like we would normally with out method

Its fairly simple, still in the same area but works on a bigger scale, n no one can say a terminaitors is not elite or a stormboy is not fast attack etc. No argument or debate. So no confussion or room for problems

Special rules would be fun lol.

I play Azrael and I get Deathing and Ravenwing as troops and their movement phase gets bounced up priority lol

Zordiak, I think that initiative should be a factor to make units with high initiative move earlier. So maybe add the units initiative score to the D20 when rolling off.

Oooh this sounds even better. I remember there being something like that for D&D as well

Lol, rephrase, less room for problems!

Sorry, not such a expert on rules I mainly paint for fun, just play odd game vs mates n we are a bit flexible at times.

But in simple way. Your not going to mix up squads, units, everyone knows the basic class,s :-)

Very true. The only annoying thing is if we were to field multiple squads with the same layouts. Would need a simple way to keep track of which but that isn't overly difficult at all.

I have a different colour painted round base of each sqaud, so each one is easy to identify but that system is not for everyon.

Ie I have green, white, n black tac squads, bronze seargents, gold officers etc.

Easy I'd for squads n rank

I'm trying to avoid painting my bases lol, don't care too much about the base as a whole and my guys are glued into the base so don't wanna risk painting over my already painted guys as I am not a careful painter

Just the rim round edge, not whole base!
Base top is grey, I'm not best at basing so keep it simple.

Whole base I'd probably coat my black templers the rainbow boot templers!
