Hi,

Im kind of new to 40k and so far I am still building my first army (Necrons). I don't know much about the Space Marines chapters to be honest, but I have a couple of Space Marine models laying around from several years ago (that I bought just to paint back then) that I have identified as Black Templars Sword Brethren.

I also recently got the 2 Limited Edition Space Marine Captains from ordering from the website ( http://www.games-workshop.com/en-NO/we14?_requestid=3242899 & http://www.crittohit.com/images/resize/w/730/imagestore/articles/5621/warhammer-40000-space-marine-captain2.jpg ).

What I am wondering is if there are any details that make these last 2 guys look like Ultramarines, or if I could simply paint them in BT colors and no one would think otherwise. Obviously the banner on the first guy would need some work, but other details than that? I assume there are a lot of things like the small skull details or the halo that not every chapter has, but how is this for the Templars?

(reason I am wondering is that if I consider starting a Space Marine army at some point it would be nice to be able to use the stuff I have, but it's not really that big of a deal, if it's too much work converting the captains to BT or the Sword Brethren to ultramarines I won't really bother and instead just paint them as is just for the pleasure of painting)

I don’t think any of the Ultramarine iconography is sculpted on, so it’s just a paint job away from being any chapter you want.

The skulls/halo/eagles are pretty generic to marines. Many chapters have their own things, but still use the basic stuff as well.

This. The Ultramarine iconography is only painted on.

Just paint them as Black Templars.

One thing to note for Black Templar is that in the fluff they do not wear the Aquila. The Aquila is supposed to be the symbol of the Emperor, but the Black Templar consider themselves the symbol of the Emperor. So on my models I never use a chest piece that has the double-headed eagle.

You will find skulls and halos all over the place. Just not the eagle. Although it is a minor piece of the fluff and some of the eagle symbols are pretty small, so I don't know how much flack you would get if you left a couple on there.

Where is this fluff from? If true I might have to redo a lot of my guys...
