Lately, I've grown weary of painting green marine after green marine in my Salamanders army, so to avoid becoming totally repulsed by them (Never!), I've decided to indulge in one of my other passions - J.R.R Tolkien's epic 'The Lord of the Rings' universe. Originally, I was after setting up an Arnorian army using the Numenorian minis from the 'Last Alliance' set. However, seeing as I can't source them in high enough numbers, I've decided to go with the next best thing - a Gondorian army. The main colours are silver, black, white, and for the forces of Dol Amroth, blue. Now, I've got the first three colours covered, but the particular shade of blue is alluding me. Having only ever painted one blue Librarian - this guy:

As you can see, the colour is rather pale. However, what I'm wanting is more in this range, (More specifically Faramir in the 1st image):

My google-fu has failed my in this instance, so I'd be much obliged if anybody could direct me as to how I can achieve this colour using GW's paint range. I should also say that it'd be handy to know how to paint this shade anyway, as I may broaden my 40k horizons in the future... moving away from green

Not sure what the new names are, though it looks like regal blue-> enchanted blue -> extreme highlight of skull white, likely mixed in with ssome enchanted blue?

Guess work on my part though

@kitch102 - Cheers for the response. I should probably say, that my Librarian was painted in this manner:

Prime: Halfords Grey
Basecoat: Kantor Blue (Necron Abyss)
Maincoat: Altdorf Guard Blue (Ultramarines Blue)
Wash: Drakenhof Nightshade (Asurmen Blue)
2nd Maincoat: Altdorf Guard Blue (Ultramarines Blue)
Highlight: Calgar Blue (No old equivalent)

Now, I don't know if that helps in any way, but I hope that with that knowledge, you may be able to point out where I'm diverging from the rich blue colour I'm wanting. I'll also be doing my Lotr army with Black Primer, simply because it saves me basecoating black over the grey for all the steel armour.

To me it looks like the highlights are what makes the difference. Give the marine some hard edge higlights to make the dark blues darker in comparison.

CHAOS! PANIC! DISORDER!
My job here is done.

@Vulcan - The Librarian is just for comparison - I'll be doing Lotr Gondorians - but thanks for the input all the same

Looks kind of like:

Base: kantor blue
Shade: VMC royal purple
Highlight 1: vgc electric blue
Highlight 2: vgc wolf grey

For this effect it looks like the highlights should be more pronounced than usual.
