So I ran out of primer on my models, got about 90% of the models done before the primer ran out. Noticed the underarms and the area under the packs is still the silver color. Won't be able to hit up a paint store for like a week but I'm hardcore into painting mode right and I don't wanna wait that long to finish. My question, can I still paint over the metal parts that are unprimed or will the paint simply not hold?

I paint many of my metal models unprimed and they are fine to this day. I never paint unprimed plastic, but unprimed metal looks great I think.
I am very careful with my models though.

Primer on metal models kinda isnt needed because it doesnt help that much lol. Metal, least for me, has an issue with paint chipping off REALLY easy no matter how long it dries before i touch it. When i painted my metal Ghazzy model is when i started investing in 'ard coat, or other such "paints" to give it a shell to protect it. Using a matte finish removes the shinyness if you dont like it. Ghazzy has banged around a bit over the past year since being painted, dont notice any chips.
He was not primed either btw.

I prime all my metals, and all of them have little spots that the spray does not hit. I prime most everything black so I sometimes just paint brush the missed areas black. More often than not I just paint it as is. I like to prime them so they don't chip or wear while i'm holding them for painting. After they are done I just spray them with Army Painter anti gloss to seal them and then they dont chip at all.

I use an etching metal primer on metals.
Paint stays on the primer longer and the primer stays on the metal. win-win.

I prime everything. Not worth the hassle to find out the paint comes off. Make sure you scrub your metal minis before your prime.

I don't prime, but I seal my metal with spray on varnish.
Wash, varnish, dry, air brush base colour, details, varnish again.
No chips to date.

With 90% coverage, you should be fine. The primer's purpose is to promote adhesion and the areas that were missed won't see any handling. You can brush a matching acrylic color over the bare spots if you want an even base to work from; otherwise, just start painting as normal.

The only thing worth mentioning is that the colours might show up a little different on some of the non-primed areas as there's no basecoat. This can be fixed by just brushing some black/white (whichever you primed with) over the area.
