I have developed a taste for OOP models. You don't want to know what this cost me. Anyone else have some old models to show off? I would love to see your collection.

Wow... That's really neat!
I don't have any truly old models, sadly.

When in doubt, throw more men at it!

I’ve got a few of those guys sitting around myself. Nice haul.

Pictures of my old stuff? Hmm <rummages around his gallery>
The newest thing in my old BA army is from early 2nd:

Only a few of my Ultras are from the RT era:

I do have a lot of random stuff in boxes and dusty corners, but they haven’t all been out for a photo shoot. I do occasionally wax nostalgic in my blog, so there are more pics of old stuff there.

I've sold a VAST majority of my 1st/2nd edition models to Spikey Bits. Some of them are still on the website. I still have a bunch of RTB01 minis for sale if you want. PM me.

Theres a guy at my FLGS that has the old Rhino models. Things look so different i didnt even recognize them at first lol. And theyre half metal, so the loud Thunk! noise threw me off even more.

I collect Guitar Noise Marines. They are the most metal figures that GW has ever produced.

The worst part about 40k is that my models don't hug me back.

You mean these?

A lot better than the newer Noise Marines, I have to say. I bet you don't have many, they're fairly rare.

About the only claim to collecting fame I have is that I could (until recently when I actually primed them all) chart the color change of GW plastics throughout the years. It used to be a lot lighter colored than it is now.

I think if you melt off the primer I actually have light and dark plastic on the same model in a couple of places. Oh the glory of attaching 6 year old bitz to a model because you ran out of arms!

^ oh heck yes. That technicolor flamer and the green edged bases take me back to the 3rd edition rulebook so hard. My first introduction to the world of 40k (other than some random games I saw in my local hobby shop) was the space marine vs eldar battle report in the front of that book. Good times man, good times...

I've got a few older minis mixed into my army, mostly hero characters.

Without a doubt though, the oldest guys in my army would have to be either these guys

Or this Commissar, who really has earned a better paintjob after some of the crazy stuff he pulled the last few games I played with him.

The face stays though. After some of the Gak he's seen, it would feel really weird to paint over the face. I just need to touch up his uniform and weapon a bit and make him look a bit more badass. He's taken on hive tyrants, survived hordes of gunfire, chucked an entire squad of guardsmen into oncoming fire to save his hide, and I'm pretty sure he's the one who precision shot a Rune Priest out of a space wolf squad in the beginning of 6th. All as a regular commissar. I'm kind of worried what kind of gak he might pull if I actually made him a lord

I'm always looking for more old IG minis, they're just hard to find for a good price sadly.

I'm making an arbites themed guard army. I recently obtained a pair of old arbites models. I love the look of them. Thats probably the oldest models I have now. I'd love to get my hands on the old genestealer cult models. I love them!

I'm fairly certain that the lower left hand two models are from another game. The name escapes me ATM.

That was my start too! I read that rulebook over and over when I was younger and just starting the hobby, and the Ultramarines and Valhallans in the book always inspired me and gave me something to aspire to. Years later, I'm glad I've finally been able to get armies together of both!

The guy on the far left is a RT era Inquisitor. Not sure about the model next to him.

I love the old models. My original collection didn't survive the decade or so I spent away from 40K but I sometimes venture into ebay to reacquire a few, or pick up ones I missed the first time around, like the Imperial Guard Beastman.

Yeah I've got a few old school Cadians (?) as well, and some similarly-aged Catachans as well. I like having old OOP models in my army like that, it adds character imho.

I've also got some 2nd or3rd ed Space Marine special weapon troops, old metal Wolf Guard Terminators, an awesome Terminator Rune Priest, and metal characters whenever I could help it (Ragnar, Njal and Logan in particular, as well as Ezekiel and an Apothecary).

I used to have a lot more of the older models than I do now. They've been sold or traded off throughout the years. I do still have the original five Grey Knight Terminators I bought back in the mid-90s. I'm going to use them as Mordrak's Ghost Knights.

I still have a predilection for painting my bolters and other weapons red, though.
