This is my take on Space Hulk bases. I'll be using them for my Iron Warriors army that is currently a WIP. Bigger pics in the gallery.

P.S. My first attempt at rust. Damn it's hard to get looking natural. I feel I was only partially successful.

They look really good.

If you want to get better a rust take some pictures of sewer & other service covers - these are a great source to see how rust forms.
Great bases though - do you cast them or are they shop-bought?

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

To answer all questions in one reply,

The rust is all paint. My technique was,
Basecoat Leadbelcher
Nulin Oil Wash
Tin bitz + Scorched Brown 50/50 heavy stipple
Bubonic Brown + Blazing Orange 70/30 medium stipple
Blazing orange very light stipple
Heavy wash Delvan Mud
Bubonic Brown very light stipple
Drybrush Chain Mail

Way more complicated then it needed to be. It was all trial and error, and eventually I got close to what I wanted. I really should have done some rust effects powders as they give you a better result in a fraction of the time. I was really interested in trying my hand at painting it though.

I scratch built the bases from base blanks, plastic card, and some pegasus bitz. Then I cast a bunch of them. I have about 200 of them just sitting around. XD

They look cool. The rust looks good, but yeah weathering powders are super quick and give a similar effect.
