Seeing as no new forest dragon model was released (a shame, they need one), I was inking about possible model proxies. An obvious on would be a converted black dragon, but I was thinking, would the Arachnarok be possible to use as a proxy? I love the model but don't want to do O&G, and it fits with the forest theme... Is it a bit on the large side?

There's also some models from warhammer forge that might work:
the warpfire dragon, looks suitably feral,
the preyton, although it might be a bit small,
the beast elemental,
the basilisk might be pretty cool too.

also, after reading the acorn of the ages fluff with the giant squirrel, I think there's another proxy idea there...

The preyton would be way too small for a forest dragon, its only about as big as a Great Stag.

Yeah I thought that might be the case.

Personally, I think any reason to use the Araachnorok is a good reason. It's one of the best models GW has ever produced.

That's exactly how I feel too haha, I love he model, but don't want to commit to an O&G army, and it fits the forest theme...
Maybe I could also sneak it in as a desert spider type thing in my Tomb Kings army?

Also seeing as the preyton is the size of,a great stag...I might use it as a great stag.

It's gonna be a bit wide. Like easily two stags wide, maybe even going on a third stag base.
Could be a pretty spectacular filler in a larger stag unit, though.

Noooo I mean like the character mount one, that's on the bigger sized base already

Ah, I see.

What about an enormous owl for a dragon?

I love that model, and someone on warseer showed me it too, but it's not in stock and I dunno if it was like a limited release.

It's bloody cool though

Seems you're right, and people are disgustingly cashing in on it now

CmoN loves their limited release models. Although I think that whilst its limited release they do do re-runs; they just don't mass produce them. As a result its a waiting game though you might get answers if you contact support. I can't imagine that its profitable for them to cast up a high detail model and then not continue casting it.

Here's another idea:

A lord standing on top of this guy's head: (it doesn't exactly scream "I can fly," though. That's a 40x40mm base, by the by, so while he's not tiny he's not the size of a dragon, but it would look funny, at the very least)

THere's also his older brother, which is quite a bit larger, but he's not as funny....

The carmine dragon from FW would actually make a great forest dragon add it's mounted on the tree and all. *thanks Overread

Personally I like the FW Magma Dragon as a Forest Dragon, of course i think it would need some tweeks.

See I felt that the Magma Dragon was a bit too bulky. SoM describes Forest Dragons as thin and lanky, moving through tree branches and all that. So IMO the Carmine or Black Dragons would probably look best.

Going off of GW discriptions I would agree, mine was just a personal preference.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with you. I'd use the Magma Dragon, because it looks absolutely fantastic.

I've actually been considering getting a Magma Dragon to play as an Ice Dragon (ironically enough) to get some lore of light going against the local Daemon and VC armies.

If you're good at painting, making the base grass, with ice growing from anywhere the dragon's feet touch it would be so flippin awesome and please make sure to prod me when you post the pictures of it when you're done, because I think your idea is fantastic.
