Hi Guys,

I've Been playing 40k a long time now. I'm surviving three editions of the game and I've been through 5 armies so far. I love the game for its competitiveness, and for the fun units that one can run. However, 40k has always lacked something which surprisingly few wargames seem to: Detail.

40k has ever striven to be more streamlined, to get you and I to play bigger games and thus, buy more miniatures. However, detail can be a lot of fun. I've been trying to get this project off the ground since about 2011, as you can see with this Failure. Regardless of whether you've read that or not, I've moved on from that experience and I've grown my idea from it. I was afraid that someone was going to steal something that to me, was the product of dozens of hours' work. I realise now that if anyone would want to steal my work, it's a testament to its quality, but I doubt that anyone wishes to.

I humbly present to you a way to play 40k thats in a pre-natal state. I haven't even finished the first codex and I'd actually lost a lot of the work from my last iteration of this game. I hope that by being more cooperative this time around, more adult and more willing to share my work, that I can garner some more interest in this idea. I guarantee you, there are going to be things that don't make sense. But, that's what I want. I want my mistakes to be found and for interested people to help me build a product that lets one go into every nuance of customisation, having more and more detailed units, rather than blobs of men all armed the same, nameless and worthless outside of their value to some greater picture.

Without getting much more soppy, and with great hesitation, I'm presenting this for a second time. I hope this time I'm more successful.

I'm including a Google Drive link, but I've written in Tahoma Font (I write everything in Tahoma, because that's the font my University asks for.). To get the version that you can edit and doesn't look like a turd in terms of how it has been formatted, I suggest you open it in word. If this becomes an issue, I'll do my best to change the font to something more unilateral. Tear it to Shreds.

Even if I only kept your attention long enough for you to glance at the document I presented, I appreciate any support I receive.

How many models would a typical game feature? Because there is a lot to keep track of!

Note to the reader: my username is not arrogance. No, my name is taken from the most excellent of commanders: Lord Castellan Creed, of the Imperial Guar- I mean Astra Militarum - who has a special rule known only as "Tactical Genius"... Although nowhere near as awesome as before, it now allows some cool stuff for the Guar- Astra Militarum - player. FEAR ME AND MY TWO WARLORD TRAITS.

Thread name is accurate! I didn't get far before I lost interest (sorry), but it felt more like an RPG than the war game 40k is now. I can see it working in a "last stand" kind of deal, using one model, but with a small force, I'm imaging 5 MEQ or so, it's a monumental amount of bookkeeping. It looks like it has potential, though. I'd keep at it!

It is more like an RPG. I've played a few preliminary games, it takes about two hours to do five SM Vs five SM.

Imagine 5 models being about equivalent to an 1850 game, as I said above - A marine with stock equipment as described in the codexes would be about ~200 points

I'm not sure how I would implement things like guard, or the weaker infantry of certain armies.

So far I'm only looking at:

Tau Battlesuits
Space Marines (doy)
Eldar Aspect Warriors
Ork Nobz

As you can see, I'm trying to avoid using units that by nature would require much more than about 5 models for a balanced game. And there's a minute chance of me including tyranid warriors and maybe carnifexes, but carnifexes would be a bugger to balance.
Part of what I'm going for is a reason for people to have a small and very characterful unit for campaign play. Obviously, my end goal is to keep the game moving at a pace where it doesn't bore the crap out of anyone, but still have enough detail that there's a good reason for its scale and to play it instead of 40k. A lot of what is written are darlings, and I need to find ways to make them less darlingful and more accessible.
