Hey dakka,

Had a thread going a while back about building an Evil army list for a 250/500/750 escalation at my local GW. Long post but please stick with it.

Well last week we had the tourney for the 500 point tourney so thought I would give you all a run-down of the success the army has experienced so far.

250 list
Yazneg
12 Hunter Orcs
Narzug
6 Hunter Orcs- 6 bows

This list went 3-1, winning the tourney on the night based on victory point’s earnt throughout the 4 match tourney. Thanks in no small part to winning the first game by 17-0. The mission being the one where you gain 1 VP for every model within 6 of the objective plus I broke the enemy without being broken and killed his leader.

Wins came against Rohan, Gondor and the honorary good guy for the night with Isengard.

The one loss came against a mirkwood elf army. I feel the scenario (getting off the other side of the board) suited my opponent but I also got outplayed IMHO.

500
Azog- White Warg
Yazneg
11 Hunter Orcs
Narzug
10 Hunter Orcs- 8 Bows
This army went 4-0 last week, facing, Gondor led by Gandalf and Saruman, those pesty mirkwood elves (coming out on top this time, and 4 hero heavy armies, one contained Gilgalad, Galadriel and 2 other elf heros and the other was Gandalf, thorin, dwalin, nori and Bilbo.

Things I have learnt:

1) Hunters are not surprisingly amazing, I seriously think they are just too good for 8 points base. For me they either need to lose the extra attack on foot or go to str 3. If they are going to keep both they need to be 10-12 points each IMHO.
2) Bows are totally worth it. For a point a model to make them all-rounder’s and not just combat monsters is amazing. As you can see from my list I like to run a bow heavy warband with narzug and a pure fighty one with yazneg with Azog in support.
3) Yazneg can save battles for you. I can think of at least 2-3 occasions where azog sacrificing him has kept me in the fight long enough to overcome and win.

So here is my 750 list for the next step

Azog- White Warg
6 Fell Wargs
Yazneg
12 Hunter Orcs
Narzug
12 Hunter Orcs- 8 Bows
The Shadowlord- Fell Beast

I feel after exstensive play that I just don’t need more hunter orcs. What I have found is against shooty armys they struggle at times to get to combat with enough numbers in certain scenarios.

What the wargs give me is a unit that can screen Azog to help protect him and most importantly their fell sight rule means that they can charge elven cloaks without having to be within 6”. Which is a real bonus aginst mirkwood elves in particular.

The shadowlord satisfies 2 things for me.
1) I wanted a real nice, big centrepiece monster/model for the army.
2) His 6” bubble means shooty armies need 6’s just to hit. This IMHO is an amazing ability, bettered only by the dark marshalls banner bubble, but its still better for this army
It means azog should see combat without harm most of the time.

Anyone got any thoughts?

All anyone wants in the world is to be accepted. Except me, i don't give a S%@t.
