Does anyone know of or can anyone recommend a US-based producer of 28mm historical miniatures that would include models from ancient-medieval era armies?

Eureka US makes and sells miniatures that would fit the bill
http://eurekaminusa.com/

as does Old Glory (OG has their own and several other manufacturers)

If you're looking for more variety from the UK, sold in the US, there is Architects of War http://www.architectsofwar.com/

I'm sure I'm missing lots of them... I wasn't sure if you meant US Manufacturer (as in sculpted and cast and sold) or US Distributor.

Although not a producer, the War Store has Perry Bros. stuff and at a discount. Might find some useful stuff there, I've been able to fill out my samurai and Japanese warbands for Ronin thanks to them. Hope this is at least a little helpful.
