Hi guys,
Recently got back into GW having used to play Tyranids back in 4th edition, so it made sense to play them again in 6th, even if it seems Taudar is where it's at
Would like to play 2000 pts mainly so this is the list that I currently have that all together hits 2000:
HQ
Hive Tyrant with; Wings, Devourers with Brain Leech Worms - 230
Hive Tyrant with; Wings, Devourers with Brain Leech Worms - 230
Troops
30x Termagants with Fleshborers - 120
30x Termagants with Fleshborers - 120
Tervigon - 195
Tervigon - 195
Elite
2x Hive Guard with Impaler Cannon - 110
2x Hive Guard with Impaler Cannon - 110
Fast Attack
Hive Crone - 155
Hive Crone - 155
Heavy Support
Tyrannofex with; Acid Spray, Adrenline Glands - 190
Tyrannofex with; Acid Spray, Adrenline Glands - 190
The Adrenline Glands for the Tfexes are simply for Fleet, Furious Charge is a bonus I also had no where else to spend those last 30 points efficiently.
At a glance, there is mainly two things that concern me about this list;
1) Heavy Support I'm not sure taking two Tyrannofexes is the right call, I've got a whole load of options that would work with the 380 points left I had when finishing with the other sections. I've got enough for two Trygons for example, a rupture cannon, or other combinations. Advice would be appreciated
2) Synapse I only have four Synapse creatures and my opponents would know this too. If they were to concentrate fire, my army would surely crumble. I don't think this is enough and would like to include either Warriors/Zoanthropes or a Trygon Prime but I can't seem to find any space for them. Again, advice would be appreciated

Well, I don't know what all you have, but here is a few things I'd do differant...
Drop the Hive Guard, replace with Zoeys. This saves 10 points, and gives you some good durable Synapse, plus Psycher buffing. I'd spend that 10 on a Thorax Hive for one of the Tyranofexen.
While I do like buying a Tervigon, it is a little overpriced, so two might be one too many. You might be happier if you drop one, and a Termigant or six. And getting a couple of Warrior Broods. Say x3: Deathspitters x2, Strangle Cannon. Thats 220 for two I think. (200 with just a cannon)
I'd then split the x24 Brood up into two, so I can get more Troop coverage. The small units are soft targets, but the enemy should be shooting at big scarey monsters, so they should survive.
Two Tyranos is a scarey force, so it should be a good thing. I'd look for 10 points so the second one can get a Hive.
If you have the figures, and want to drop one Tyrano, try to save 90 points so you can add a Brood of Venos, they really are nessisary at higher point games.

I have a couple of different recommendations from pinecone's for this list. 1) Drop the hive guard. Instead, get a brood of 2 zoanthropes for synapse and 2 broods of a single venomthrope each. The venoms will give shrouded to your tervs, 30 man term squads (plus whatever your tevs spawn), and your tyrannofexes. They are great force multipliers, and they are cheaper 2) I would use the extra points to take rupture cannons on the tyrannofexes. Some people don't like them, but I love them. Having 4 S10 shots turn 1 and 2 is incredibly helpful. You can eliminate armor that is threatening your swarms and pop transports to allow your little guys to assault the troops inside. Otherwise, this looks like a strong list. Give it a try and see what you like. Nids are most flexible in the heavy slot. You see a lot of competitive lists running mawlocks/trygons, carnifexes, biovores, and tyrannofexes. You just have to find what works for you. I like the tyrannofexes for the S10 shooting and 2+ saves (though in 2 FoC games I typically pair them with 2 trygon primes for some mid-field, front-field fun).

Ok since you've both suggested switching the Hive Guard with Zoan's I'll go ahead and make the switch
I've also taken Fretag93's suggestion for the remainder of the Elite choices, since both of you recommended trying to fit a Venomthrope in somewhere.
Having a look at my meta, it's not really vehicle based - my friend uses fast skimmers when playing with Tau (partly why I included two Hive Crones) and I've yet to see him play with the Eldar army, do Rupture Cannons generally work well against Eldar?
If not, I'm thinking of putting those last 60 points into the Tervigons. Shreddershard Beetles on both of them to better deal with Infantry and Hive Commander on both Tyrants to give them Outflank. Would this work? Or would simply Regeneration on both of them be better?

I don't really see Regen as a good purchase, because any foe with sense will focus fire till the target is eliminated, so you never get any value.
Rupture Cannon is a "like, or don't like" issue. Some folks really like them, others (me for example) don't. Against Eldar I would be very happy with a Torrent Template (AP4..?) and a second Template. That should destroy most infantry, and you can Smash to get rid of pesky ones. I like to put a Adrenal gland, it puts more pressure on the enemy, and gives a small boost on the charge....
Late entry: Hive Commander is almost always a good purchase. Me? I like Outflanking Tervigon...

Personally, I wouldn't use the points on Hive Commander. You should want your tervs marching up the field for multiple reasons: 1) They will provide synapse to everything else 2) The units they spawn will be able to take midfield and backfield objectives (plus you wouldn't be able to spawn on the turns that they are in reserve) 3) They get the benefits from the venoms if they are with them 4) They will absorb fire, which can actually be a good thing as having tons of models on the board will help everything else survive. It forces your opponent into target priority, which can be difficult when you have 4 FMCs, 4 MCs, and a ton of troops all on the board. EDIT: It is also helpful if you go back and edit your initial post with your changes. That allows others who read the post to see where the army currently is. Just some advice.

Fair enough, I'll think of somewhere else to spend those points. Maybe Cluster Spines or Stinger Salvos on the Crones, or a small unit of Termagants to take objectives, I'll see.
I'll probably be able to test this list at the weekend and if it doesn't work as I hope, look into other units, such as Biovores and Exocrines. They look pretty tasty

So I managed to get one game in over the weekend, trying out 7th edition rules. Didn't get a change to play against my friends Eldar but I did play a guy who used Ultramarines.
Honestly, I got stomped on by the guy. My stuff simply didn't get through the armour saves of Marines and Terminators while he wrecked stuff up with flamers and all sorts. Vehicles were exceptionally hard to break down due to my lack of AP2 weapons and the fact the majority of my weapons were strength 6 or below (the only things that could really hurt it were the Zoanthropes requiring Psychic tests and the Hive Crones which just got nerfed horribly with changes to Vector Strike)
What should I switch? The Tyrannofexes did next to nothing with their Acid Sprays (I thought Rupture Cannon AP4 would be useless, turns out neither would have helped) and I think I need more AP2 weapons, or weapons with higher strength to cause instant kill. I think if anything has to go, it has to be the two Heavy Support options first.
I've slowly resigned myself to saying that Tyranids in 7th edition have to basically glance things to death, of which my army had trouble doing.
