Q: Do models in a multiple Toughness value unit who are involved in a Challengestill use the majority Toughness of their unit? (p64)
A: No, they use their own Toughness value.

Actually the FAQ does not state to use their own WS, it is just the likely inferred answer given you are told to use the Toughness of the challenger, not the majority toughness of the unit.

models always use their own weapon skill whaen they attack. so if you have a character with WS6 in a unit with WS4 attacking another unit with WS4, he'll hit on 3's and his unit will hit on 4's.

Yes indeed, but assume two units of WS4 and an attached character of WS5.
Normally the characters would hit on 3's, as you use the majority WS of the unit not the WS of the other character.
Challenges have no specific verbiage to change that, but the ruling on using model toughness rather than majority toughness can be sensibly expanded to cover majority weapon skill as well, so much so that people (at least, that I've met) are more likely to question it when you do it RAW.

Which isnt the point I was making.

If you havea WS5 char and 3 WS4 grunts, then you (outsie of a challenge) hit everyone as if they were WS4. If, instead, as the FAQ suggests you do and treat the character as separate to the unit, you instead hit him on WS5.

This is of course only inferred, but I ave yet to see anyone pre or post FAQ play it any other way than treating the character as "alone" for the purpose of WS and T
