So I am new to warhammer 40k and I am building a dark angel army
I already have 3 tac squads
2 terminator squads
1 dreadnought
And the named characters from the starter box
What is the best move for my next purchase of troops

You should first decide what point list you plan on using. Then build your army. Then get the models.

Well looking at doing a 2000 point army. I was thinking of doing the deathwing units. Like I said still very new to the game

Have you played very many games?

Often the best inspiration for where to go next will come from the games you play. You'll play a bunch and think "I need more close combat", or "I wish I had more fast units", or "I want to find a way to make this cool unit work in my army". It's a lot easier to fill a need than it is to just sort of randomly guess what you want to have.

Furthermore, if you already had an idea of what you're looking for, but didn't know how to expand in that direction, that's something that would be a lot easier for the rest of us to help you with.

To be honest, i don't think you'll need any more troops. 30 tactical marines are allready alot - that's 6 scoring units. Get them rhinos and droppods and u're good. Dreadnought is gona be harder to use - the best way i've found is an ironclad with 2 heavy flamers in a droppod.

1. Wait till 7 ed - it's like in a week or so. Things WILL change.
2. Try what you have allready - it's gona be enough for at very least a 1250 point game if you mean that your tac squads are 10-strong and you have 30 marines and not 15. Otherwise, a 1k pt game.
3. Note that dark angels are not even close to the strongest armies at the moment. No matter what you do, you're still gona get stomped by most competitive lists. However, you can make a solid and fun-to-play army expanding your current forces with stuff that's gona be needed in your local meta. You won't know what's gona be needed in your local meta untill you complete step 2. You're still quite potent against not top-cheeze lists.
