As the new alliance level between SM and Tau will be Desperate Allies, you don't want units from these armies too close from each other. As Hammerheads generally stay behind and Crisis can DS, I'd say a midfield unit would be good.

Bikes! White Scars or Iron Hands (if you have points for the super-Chapter Master), filled with Meltas and Grav-guns.

Centurions with Grav-guns and supported by a Librarian would be good. Pick Mantis Warriors or Ultramarines for Divination (Tigurius).

Drop Pods with Sallies, as said by Feindus. Meltas are good on them (Sternguard with combi-meltas even better)

A Vindicator help with our lack of S10 plate. Kill those anti-tank units before rolling it too far, though. Thunderfire Cannon to deal with hordes from afar (and indirect fire). If you don't care about this, a Tri-las Predator to deal with tanks (Tau struggle with this outside Railheads and Melta Crisis)

Stormtalons and Stormravens (be from the codex or from the formation) are good - Iron Hands with those.

Terminators are expensive, but make a good distraction. DS them amidst the enemy formations

Entering Forgeworld, Rapier Weapons Battery will cost more than the Tri-las, but TL ordnance lascannons are quite awesome in my book.

Whirlwind Scorpius can save some Seeker Missiles. It's a great marine killer

AI & BFG: / BMG: Mr. Freeze, Deathstroke / Battletech: SR, OWA / Fallout Factions: BoS / HGB: Caprice / Malifaux: Arcanists, Guild, Outcasts / MCP: Mutants / SAGA: Ordensstaat / SW Legion: CIS / WWX: Union

Voted Astra Militarum for a chance for them to get nerfed instead of my own army.
