I'm building up my dudes now, and I'm wondering if this is allowed, the Codex wording is ambiguous.

Sure can. It says that they may take, not 'model may replace'.

Ok, I'm blaming you if I'm told this is illegal.

Just show them the page. Why else would it say.

may replace their bolt pistols with a plasma pistol

Or take one of the following.

I'm just kidding.

The reason I wasn't sure was because there is a second hand to hold the barrel of the weapon, and I will have to pose the model quite imaginatively to fit both the ranged weapon and the cc weapon on.

Your codex which you need to play with your CSM army tells you what weapon and wargear options have.

With power-armor models, they do get a ton of wargear, though, so it's not the most grievous proxy in the world if not everything is modelled correctly. That said, there are plenty of bolt pistols in holsters, and it's pretty easy to find smaller-than-chainsword close combat weapons you can tack on.

Attach the weapon to his hip or across his back.

I have a Khorne Berzerker carrying two chainswords. He has a bolter slung over his back. I play the bolter as a bolt pistol because I imagine that a zerker will still try and use it one handed and not be able to shoot very far with it.

I am determined to get this chainsword on! I'm trying to adjust the shoulder joint with green stuff.

That's a modelling question, then.

In any case, it shouldn't be all that hard to unbend a gun arm, leaving plenty of space for the other. My first khorne berzerker has a bolter and chainsword. It's really not THAT hard to set up with a hobby knife and a bit of greenstuff:

Actually, I don't think there was even any greenstuff for that part of the conversion. Just chop off the arm above the elbow, cut into some of the arm at the angle you want, and glue it back on, then you just glue the upper arm down a little lower to compensate for the missing bit and the shoulderpad covers the rest.

You could easily do this with a meltagun.

Or better yet, make a gunblade, chainsword/meltagun style.

I've adjusted the shoulder joint. I did briefly contemplate making a gunblade, but I'm not confident enough in my modeling skills yet to do that.

Seems like a lot of unnecessary work. I just took a pistol arm and swapped out the pistol for a gun.
